Nevada Fish Reports

We headed over to Wilson Common today to try and catch some Rainbow Trout that had been recently stocked. We did see jumpers. The wind had picked up so the conditions were not optimal. Very little change here and Harrison Pass should be open even though it saw some Tuesday and Wenesday, though take a 4WD with clearance as there are some washouts. Water levels are up with some turbidity due to runoff making fishing a bit more difficult. Fishing has been fair for trout and there have been no reports of any bass being caught.

Wildhorse is at the highest water level it has seen in years and there is a lot of water going over the spillway as well as lots of water still in the form of snow in the basin. Extremely low water levels with warm water make this reservoir a poor choice for fishing. Not worth the trip.

The road to Wilson has some ruts and washboards, so take your time. The lake is spilling with enough water going over the new rock below the spillway to let trout move down into the river and pools below the spillway. Fishing below the spillway has been good. The road to Angel Lake is closed. There will be no further reports until late next spring or early summer depending upon snow conditions.

This is currently at about 90% of capacity and fishing is picking up. Trout have been seen rising and dimpling the surface, especially in the warmer afternoons. Chironomids, scuds and small nymphs (size 16 to 20) fished either right above the bottom or just under the surface appear to be working. This lake was recently stocked with approximately 2000 rainbow trout.

There are still some muddy areas, so anglers should use caution when driving around the lake though it is drying out. The public should still plan on sticking to areas with good gravel substrate to keep from getting stuck with the precipitation that is forecast for next week. Rainbow trout have been hitting very well around the lake. The fish are taking small spinners or PowerBait. Garrett Johnson and Kalin Brown caught and released more than 100 bass between the two of them over the weekend, including one that weighed in at more than 10 pounds and another at 5. Crappie have also been hitting well on small jigs.

Fishing has been excellent. Rainbows, bass and crappie are hitting on a variety of baits and lures. The rainbows have been actively hitting PowerBait in orange, green or rainbow colorations, as well as night crawlers with a bit of marshmallow.

Black Bass have provided exciting fishing in the coves outside of Cottonwood Cove. Patient anglers fishing near drop offs and underwater vegetation have brought in some good largemouth bass. There have been few reports out of Willow Beach, but those indicate that striped bass fishing is good. The fish are biting swimbaits and anchovies.

Windy weather conditions have kept many anglers off the water. Those who have spent time fishing have been rewarded with good striper action. Several 20-inch stripers have been reeled in with crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps. The best fishing has been found from sunset into the nighttime hours. Spinner baits have been taking black bass in the afternoons.
