Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee River is in great shape this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River is in great shape this week, it’s running clear with great flows. Both the bugs and the fish are active right now. These are the pre-runoff conditions we always look forward to every year. The air temps are expected to get into the 60’s in town this week leading the forecast for fishing to be incredibly promising over the next week or

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
This may go back a bit, but this size of fish is what’s running now. These stripers can be caught from shore using anchovies or lures. Our water levels this year are a bit out of whack, but for those fishing with bait, we have some bait wrap thread available to help secure your bait to the hook. I recommend using a hook size between

We have had a lot of snow and colder temperatures recently

by RENO FLY SHOP
We have had a lot of snow and colder temperatures recently. This has dropped the lake surface temps from near 50 degrees down to the mid 40’s. This can sometimes shock the fish or make them a little more sluggish. I know a change of 4-5 degrees may not seem like a lot, but for trout this is enough of a change to alter their

The river is in great shape and is fishing well

by RENO FLY SHOP
The river is in great shape and is fishing well. Flows at Reno gauge are hovering around 500cfs. Earlier in the week a storm moved through the area and raised flows a bit. This storm added color to the water and gave it a nice green tint. A large selection of insects are active right now with a daily mix of Blue Winged Olives and midges.

For the first time in nearly 6 years, Cave Lake is at capacity and spilling

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
For the first time in nearly 6 years, Cave Lake is at capacity and spilling. Water levels reached normal pool on 3/14/25.  With recent storms, shoreline access will be muddy until the snow melts and everything begins to dry out.  Anglers can expect to catch hatchery-reared rainbow trout stocked into Cave Creek in June 2024 that ended up in Cave Lake as the water levels

Water levels are recovering since the draw down last fall

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Water levels are recovering since the draw down last fall.  Anglers can expect decent shoreline fishing around the reservoir. The reservoir was not stocked last fall due to the draw down.  Normal stocking efforts should resume this year.

Comins Lake has approximately 100 percent open water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Comins Lake has approximately 100% open water.  The dock was slid in place last week and the launch is ready for the 2025 open water season.  Large trout have been seen shoaling off the shoreline along the north lake.  Rainbow trout being caught are measuring between 16 and 20 inches, a weighing several pounds. Trout are being caught on PowerBait, spinners, nightcrawlers, and wetflies behind

Catch rates are good with anglers catching several trout per hour

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Illipah Reservoir is 100% open water and at capacity. Road access into Illipah Reservoir is unknown as of the storms on 3/17/2025.  Recent angler contacts revealed trout in the 11-to-13 inch range being caught, with an occasional brown trout in the mix. Catch rates are good with anglers catching several trout per hour. A total of 9,012 rainbow trout averaging 9.3 inches were stocked last

The fishing continues to be solid at the salty pond, with good numbers of fish cruising the shorelines

by THE FLY SHOP
The fishing continues to be solid at the salty pond, with good numbers of fish cruising the shorelines. Pick your favorite beach and be ready for an opportunity at a high-teen to 20lber. There have been significantly more big fish caught this season than last. Indicator nymphing with Balanced Leeches and Chironomids are producing the most consistent right now, but stripping Popcorn Beetles, Midnight Cowboys,

The lake is fishing great

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
The lake is fishing great. Way better than the last two springs so far. Let’s see if it holds out. The fish are really spread out. The water at the hatchery is not running and there is no reason for the fish to pile up at the Nets beaches. The good news is you can catch fish in places that are not crowded. Stripping Northern

Starting to get more bookings with the higher flows and nicer weather

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We’ve had a couple clients on the ranch this past week but were unable to get any reports back, that being said I would still say that it’s at least as good as the public section(s) on the ranch and likely the same types of patterns will work there. We are starting to get more bookings with the higher flows and nicer weather so if

The East is still fishing very well on the Nevada side

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The East is still fishing very well on the Nevada side, we’re still getting good reports almost daily from down there. The water flows have been fluctuating a bit, which is typical for this time of the year, but it hasn’t seemed to slow the action down at all. Today the river if running at about 76cfs. There are some stoneflies hatching now, depending on

Excellent week to get out to the lake

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With the biggest storm of the year pushing through the area, this is an excellent week to get out to the lake. Midges under an indicator have still been out-fishing any other fly or presentation. They will likely continue to do so until the fish migrate back into deeper water some time in late April or early May. We haven’t found the need to go

Despite this storm coming in wet to start, the temps dropped quickly

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Despite this storm coming in wet to start, the temps dropped quickly. We only saw a brief increase in flows before they dropped after a few days of sub-freezing air temps. We love seeing this cold front come through, keeping the precipitation on the hill and not in the river allowing it to stay cold for that much longer during the dog days of summer.

Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been pretty good

by MATT KOLES
So far March has been about the coldest month of this Winter. Good snows and more on the way. Pretty stoked for the precip.  Not a great Winter, but not bad either. If we can finish with 90% of average ,that'd be great. Winter is not over, we'll see.  Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been pretty good. I really like March. April and early May

As of 3/13 park officials are reporting thawing conditions and soft edges near the boat ramp

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As of 3/13 park officials are reporting thawing conditions and soft edges near the boat ramp. Due to unsafe conditions, they will not be taking measurements unless everything freezes over again. As we enter into spring next week, ice conditions will likely continue to deteriorate. Exercise extreme caution in this late ice fishing season. Trout are being caught in the 16″-22″ range, and perch are measuring

Water temperatures are sitting between 38 and 40 degrees

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
State Park staff has opened the main boat ramp for the season. Water temperatures are sitting between 38 and 40 degrees. Shoreline anglers are having the best luck with trout hitting orange PowerBait. Below the dam, fly anglers are finding trout in the pools downstream of the spillway.

Fishing Derby Returns to Gardnerville in June

by DOUG BUSEY
Hello fellow anglers.  I have to tell you, this time of year is a little topsy turvy when it comes to getting out and being able to fish. Last week it was 62 degrees and in a tee shirt, this weekend we are back to winter and a jacket.  But I do have some exciting things that do come with this time of year. As many have

The strong winds have been keeping boats off the water

by RUSTY
As for the Lake Mohave fishing report, it's a bit quiet, likely due to the windy weather. The strong winds up there have been keeping boats off the water, as the rough waves can be challenging for smaller vessels. Just a reminder—it's always a good idea to let someone on shore know your plans, including your departure and return times.

We have some river fishing news this week!

by RUSTY
We have some river fishing news this week! Local angler Kenan Guleryuz was fishing from shore in the community park area and landed a striper weighing 7.22 pounds and measuring 27 3/8 inches. These fish are typically around this size this time of year, making it a great catch! Kenan was using a Savage Gear swim bait while fishing from shore. I've also heard that
