Good fishing for Striped Bass in the Vegas Wash area of Lake Mead

Anglers continue to find good fishing for striped bass in the Vegas Wash area. Live shad is the most productive bait, but cut anchovies are a good substitute. At 33 Hole largemouth bass have been hitting Rat-L-Traps and Beetle Spins. The bite in the Overton Arm has also picked up this past week with a pair of anglers bringing in 50 stripers,

The Largemouth bass bite has come alive at Adam-McGill & Haymeadow Reservoirs

Largemouth bass have come alive on the management area. At Adams-McGill one lucky angler reportedly reeled in a five-pound fish and a handful of others in the three- to four-pound class. Anglers also are catching bass at Dacey, Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. Rainbow trout as large as 16-inches are taking baits as well. Give PowerBait, night crawlers or flies a try.

Anglers have caught several stripers weighing between the five- and 10-pound mark in recent days, and a few that topped 20 pounds. AC plugs have been the lure of choice. Further south catfish action has picked up along with the water temperatures. The fish aren't too picky. Hotdog slices, chicken livers or cut anchovies has them biting.

Small stripers are providing anglers with good fishing but larger fish have been tough to find. Cut baits and swimbaits have proven successful in Government Wash, Crawdad Cove and 33 Hole. The catfish bite has been good in the Vegas Wash area and near Stewarts Point, also using cut baits.

Pyramid Lake, NV Fish Report

Fishing is fair. Decent reports around Wino and Pelican on the new planted Lohanton strain. Best fishing is close to shore when there is chop on the water. Strip a pyramid bugger with a tadpole or snail dropper. A strip and pause will yo-yo action initiates a strike. Use 2X tippet for these big fish. Thank you if you attended my spring clinics this weekend. I had a great time teaching them. Everyone learned a few things, (I hope), and everyone hooked fish. We nymphed with a few different rigs, fished some dry dropper setups, and did some streamer fishing. The dry fly fishing was surprisingly good as well. I'm cranking right into summer mode now on the Truckee River.

Brown bite has been very good. Guide Mike Nielsen of Tahoe Topliners has been catching 6 to 10 per day from two to six pounds. Rainbows are mixed in. Best year in rainbows in a long time. Macks to six pounds are caught early in the morning trolling down to 60 feet. Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Cold Springs and Haymeadow are giving up stocked trout along with some fish as large as 16-inches. Bass fishing is picking up on both reservoirs. Trout are in spawning mode at Dacey and the bite is slow. Anglers are catching a few bass with spinner baits. At Adams-McGill Reservoir anglers are catching both bass and trout. Largemouth bass have started to spawn on all reservoirs.

Trout fishing has been really good with anglers finding success using a variety of methods. Anglers who were fly fishing over the weekend caught large numbers of fish on Hare's Ear nymphs, Woolly Buggers and other nymph patterns tied in darker colors such as olive and black. Bait fishermen have been doing well while fishing from the dock or the dam with PowerBait.

Fishing action has picked up this week now that the bluegill and bass are finishing up their spawning activity. The fish are taking mealworms and night crawlers. The catfish plant went off without a hitch last week. Anglers continue to catch a few rainbow trout.
