Rainbow trout continue to take yellow and orange PowerBait and Power Eggs. Last week NDOW planted channel catfish in each of the urban ponds. The one exception was Lorenzi Park, which is still under construction. Catfish will take most processed baits, hotdogs, night crawlers or chicken livers. The Action for Smallmouth & Largemeouth at Lake Mead is good

Competitive and recreational anglers alike found good action for smallmouth and largemouth bass over the weekend. Windy conditions stirred up the water, but anglers casting dark plastics found success. Anglers are catching striped bass from Vegas Wash to 33 Hole, however most are on the small side. Gizzard shad can be found in the back of the wash.

Cold Springs and Haymeadow are giving up stocked rainbows and largemouth bass have shown signs of life. Anglers throwing flies and spinners are catching trout measuring from 12 to 16 inches at Dacey. Bass and trout are both taking baits at Adams-McGill Reservoir. Currently there is no running water at the campground.

The action has been excellent this past week with most anglers limiting out within a few hours from both boats and the shore. Most fish are in the 12- to 15-inch range. Red and white spinning lures and silver spoons have been particularly productive. The campground facilities and the fish cleaning station are scheduled to be open by April 22.

Rainbow trout have been cooperative and biting well on Rapala fish imitations or nightcrawlers. Largemouth bass are also showing up in creels, though most have been the smaller size classes.

Mike Nielsen is getting one to three browns per trip from the south shore to Meeks Bay. Largest go to five pounds. Vertical jigging gets macks from 160 to 220 feet down. Water temperature is 47 degrees. As the water warms, the bite will improve. Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Spring fishing on the Truckee is improving

After four days of heavy winds finally they have laid down. We should continue the good spring fishing we've been experiencing in the greater Truckee-Tahoe-Reno area on the Truckee River. There still is a descent snow pack up top, but so far we've been having a gradual melt. The river has been staying in the good, fishy-flow stage. Flows are about 300 cfs below
