Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee River is really fishing well right now

by MATT KOLES
Thank you if you attended my spring clinics this weekend. I had a great time teaching them. Everyone learned a few things, (I hope), and everyone hooked fish. We nymphed with a few different rigs, fished some dry dropper setups, and did some streamer fishing. The dry fly fishing was surprisingly good as well. I'm cranking right into summer mode now on the Truckee River.

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report, May 23, 2013

by MATT KOLES
I'll give you guys a California side report this week because that's where I've been fishing. I'm sure the Nevada side is fishing well, but I haven't been on it in about ten days or so. The booze parade of inner tubers will be out this weekend through Reno, if you go, go early, or go East of Reno. It'll be a big weekend

A cold spell is delaying bug hatches. Streamers are a good bet to attract larger browns. Mountain Hardware & Sports (530) 587-4844

Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Bass bite is improving in the south end of the lake. Average smallmouth is 2-1/2 pounds but a five pound largemouth was caught last week. Trout anglers do best trolling 15 feet deep in the middle of the lake. Shore fisherman are having a tough time. Topaz Landing (775) 266-3550

The fishing at Kirch Wildlife Management Area fluctuates from fair to good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Cold Springs and Haymeadow are giving up stocked trout along with some fish as large as 16-inches. Bass fishing is picking up on both reservoirs. Trout are in spawning mode at Dacey and the bite is slow. Anglers are catching a few bass with spinner baits. At Adams-McGill Reservoir anglers are catching both bass and trout. Largemouth bass have started to spawn on all reservoirs.

Trout fishing has been very good at Eagle Valley Reservoir

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Trout fishing has been really good with anglers finding success using a variety of methods. Anglers who were fly fishing over the weekend caught large numbers of fish on Hare's Ear nymphs, Woolly Buggers and other nymph patterns tied in darker colors such as olive and black. Bait fishermen have been doing well while fishing from the dock or the dam with PowerBait.

The Crappie bite came on big at Echo Canyon Reservoir

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The crappie bite has really come on this past week with fish taking Gitzits and small jigs in white and red coloration suspended below small bobbers. Anglers have been locating most of the fish in the upper end of the lake near the inflow. Largemouth bass have completed their spawn but are slow to take lures or baits. Rainbows are taking PowerBait

Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass are still on their beds because of the cooler water temperature

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
With the water temperature much cooler than Lake Mead, both largemouth and smallmouth bass can still be found on beds. Bass in the coves can be taken using rip baits and drop shots. Large schools of carp have been making fishing difficult as they spook the bass when lures are thrown too close. Catfish are becoming more active and can be seen

Fishing action has picked up this week at the Las Vegas Urban Ponds

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing action has picked up this week now that the bluegill and bass are finishing up their spawning activity. The fish are taking mealworms and night crawlers. The catfish plant went off without a hitch last week. Anglers continue to catch a few rainbow trout.

Shad movement is making the Striper fishing much better

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
With the shad moving in striper fishing is improving. Anglers have had success netting shad along the shore line at 33 Hole and in Vegas Wash. Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass remains, but most have already left their beds and are searching for food. Texas rigs and jerk baits have proven successful.

Most days have been pretty good on Sceirine ranch with just a couple exceptions this week.

by JIM REID
There's still a few stoneflies coming off on the ranch as well. The same patterns are working well on the ranch as on the Cali side of the EW plus you can try some streamers like zuddlers or moal leeches, also a dead drift crayfish is a good bet down there.

Unlike last week, things are changing daily on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
LT the other day, but none today. Maybe they'll kick off strong, maybe they won't. They like a solid week of warm weather, rain today, we'll see what happens. Everything else is on the menu, princes, copper johns, hare's ears, and rubberleggs. Of course the real bugs are out too, or about to come out. As you can see I like fishing attractors this time

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Guide Mike Nielsen is getting limits of lakers on both a.m. and p.m. trips. Rainbows and browns are coming from 45 feet of water with spoons and Stickbaits. The jig bite for lakers has been in 165 to 225 feet with good action on 3 to 5 pound macks.  Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Pyramid Lake, NV Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Best fishing is when there is chop on the water and the Lohanton’s are close to shore where they can be reached with a shooting head from a ladder. Stripping a pyramid bugger with a tadpole or snail dropper. A strip and pause will yo-yo action on the snail initiates a strike. Good reports around Wino and Pelican where anglers are hooking the cutts. Use

Jakes Creek Reservoir has been stocked and fishing should be good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
This lake has been stocked and fishing should be good here. Water level is about a foot from spilling, so while it is a bit low, this small impoundment is in better shape than many. This is the time to fish Jakes Creek Reservoir from shore, as the weeds start to grow in late May and early June making fishing from shore difficult later in

Not open as the lake is iced over

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The road is closed and the lake is completely iced over. No more reports until about mid or late May when NDOT generally opens the road to this high mountain lake.

Fishing has been good at Cave Lake for 8 to 10 inch fish

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been good for 8 to 10 inch fish using baits as well as small spinners and flies. Trout are often seen shoaling in the shallows and sight fishing can be fun. Brown trout fishing has been slow for numbers but good for quality. Two browns, one almost 10 lbs. and one almost 14 lbs. have been caught over the past month. The best

Fishing has been good at Illipah Reservoir for 14 to 16 inch fish

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been good for 14 to 16 inch fish. Float tubers seem to be having the best luck in the south 1/3 of the lake using wooly buggers, leech patterns, chironomids and hare's ears.
