Nevada Fish Reports

Sceirine Ranch is fishing very well

by JIM REID
The ranch is also fishing very well, mostly the same patterns as on the California side. They've also been picking up some fish on dark lords and prince nymphs. The streamer action has been very good on the ranch too.

Baetis, Caddis & Stones are doing the trick on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Full on Indian Summer has kicked in. Nights are cool again, but warm sunny days have kept the nymph rigs busy. The dry fly, and streamer fishing just hasn't been that good for us this week. Down and dirty and you will get some head shakes. Baetis, October Caddis, stones, and worms will all get you fish on the nymph rig. In fact, you can

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

Kokanee are gathering for their run up Taylor Creek. Most are turning color. Jigs get mackinaw from 120 to 200 feet of water. Cave Rock was planted last week with 1,700 pounds of rainbow trout by Nevada.  Kastmaster lures or worms have been the most productive.  Gene St. Denis. Low flows from Tahoe City to the Boca outflow. Concentrate on the deeper pools. Water is on the warm side. Use bait in the general regulation areas. Below town use copper Johns, nymphs. October caddis patterns are a good bet.  Mountain Hardware & Sports (530) 587-4844

Some Al Troth stories (originated the Elk Hair Caddis) from a couple of days fishing on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Had the pleasure of taking out Bob and his buddy Keith the last few days. Both great guys to spend some time with on the water. Bob's been around a while, and like myself, loves the craft of fly tying. Bob gave me some original Al Troth flies that Al tied for him some years ago. Al originated the Elk Hair Caddis. Al has

Sceirine Ranch is reporting 15 to 25 fish per day

by JIM REID
The ranch has also been fishing very well, most anglers reporting 15 to 25 fish per day. Lots of nice fish going over 20 inches. Pretty much the same patterns as on the California side have been working, also they've been doing pretty well with some dry/dropper rigs as well.

This is what they call "Prime Time" fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
This is it folks, right now until the end on November on the Cali side. After that it will be to cold and you will be bummed you didn't get up here this fall. By the end of November, I'll pretty much only be fishing the Nevada side. The Nevada side is fishing very good right now too. It is only going to get

What it like to guide on the Truckee when it's Easy

by MATT KOLES
Hard to believe I got paid for the last couple days on the Truckee River. It's nice when the fish cooperate, and the dudes in the boat fish cool. Had some young hands that fished every inch of water, and some old hands that can still work the water. Good times, with good bull shitting and fishing. Thanks guys.

Sceirine Ranch is fishing excellent right now

by JIM REID
The ranch is fishing excellent as well, the water is a couple degrees cooler down on the ranch and there's some very nice rainbows and browns being landed down there. Silver streaks, san juan worms, dead drift crayfish, copper johns, dark lords and flashback emergers have all been doing well.

It's still too warm for the fishing to really pick up on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Seems like Indian Summer has kicked in. Usually does this time of year. Nights are cool and getting longer, and fishing is improving on the Truckee River. Still a bit warm in the afternoons, but mornings are perfect. Fish seem to be chowing on small crayfish, small baitfish, stones, and baetis. Look down at your feet, that will give you a clue. Really though, the

Learn all the Secrets of the Truckee from Gilligan

by MATT KOLES
I think being a good guide means keeping no secrets. I share everything. All my secret spots, all my flies, and techniques. I keep nothing from anyone who comes on a guided trip. I don't save water to go fish with my friends the next day, or take people to the same generic place that everyone else goes. Around here that would be the Glenshire

The flows are down on the Truckee & there are the same number of fish, now is a good time to fish

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
Although nighttime air temperatures have been way cooler the last couple of weeks around the town of Truckee, daytime temperatures have still been very warm. This has kept the water temps. up and slowed the normal fall changes to the fishing. The flows have been cut way back out of Lake Tahoe and most of the water in the system is coming from Boca Reservoir.

The Ranch is also fishing really well, lots of nice browns and rainbows.

by JIM REID
The dry action has been a little better on the ranch than on the Cali side, stimulators, caddis and chernobyl ants have been doing well in addition to the patterns that are working on the Cali side.
