Nevada Fish Reports

I'm back floating on an Aire raft again, in my opinion the best rafts in the business. Thankfully, I had a few hours yesterday to float the miracle mile section up from my house in Hirschdale. You have to get that new raft smell off, you know, that new smell of new rubber. It's been days since I actually strung up the rods for myself.

The ranch has fished very well this weekend, lots of fish over 20 inches coming out to play. Chubby chernobyls, stoneflies, dark lords, dead drift crayfish have been working well along with various midge and caddis nymph patterns. It's always great to take out the old clients, the ones you've taken out season after season, especially the ones that can fish. I've taken Bob out for awhile now, gotten to know him a bit. This time of year we usually get into the dog days of August, you know, warm water temps and sluggish fish, but this year is not typical, and the fishing still feels more like July. The fishing is good, and will remain good for the rest of August on the Truckee River. Stones, caddis, crays, and hoppers are on the menu this month. Great weather,

It is getting a little hot in the afternoons, but fishing is pretty much good all day. Caddis and yellow stones in the evenings, with a few big heads coming up. Nymphing during the day with crays, stones, and caddis, seem to be doing the trick. The grass is tall this year, and the hoppers are out, we should have some good late August hopper

The ranch is fishing excellent with this lower flow, most of the same patterns that work on the California side will work on the ranch as well. We've also had some good reports on dead drift crawfish, birds nest, and dry/dropper rigs with a chubby chernobyl on top and a nymph or two dropper.

The Truckee River is finally down to normal summertime levels, fishing is good, and the bugs are out in full force. Water temp is a perfect, 58, warming up to about 60 in the afternoons. The ranch has fished well this past week, lots of real quality fish in the 18 to 22 inch range. Nymphs like Weir's caddis pupa, birds nest, zebra midge, flashback emerger, copper john and pheasant tails have all been working.

The last few days it's been downright hot here in the Hirsch. Put the beers on ice, get the straw hat out, and put them waders away. I wouldn't say it's on fire, the Truckee River, but if you have some basic skills you should be catching fish right now. Still a tad high down here in the Hirsch, but lowering daily. The upper stretches, the shire and through town, the water's low, and by mid-day starting to get piss warm. Trout migrate and so should you. Start hitting some faster pocket

It's 7/24, and today was the first day I was able to cross the river below Hirschdale. Is was a bit sketchy, but worth it. There's places that still haven't been fished since last fall, and I like to be the first. The Truckee River is still dropping slowly daily, and daily she is fishing better. A perfect 58 degrees and caddis just about everywhere.

We've had several clients on the Sceirine this week and all have done well. Now that the flows are down a bit the ranch is much easier to fish, and there's lots of nice fish hanging out there. Caddis nymphs, and midges just like the Cali side have been doing well, also birds nest, princes and dark lords have been good.

Here in Hirschdale, she's finally under 1000 cubes. The Truckee River hasn't been this low since mid-March. Through town and along the shire it is back to normal summertime flows.
