Heavy boating traffic associated with the holiday weekend kept many anglers at home or off the water. Those who went out picked up a few stripers, mostly on live shad. The run-off is minimal this spring and the River is already fishing well. There are a couple of tributaries that are flowing pretty hard and the lower river is a little high. Flows are fluctuating between 400 and 500 cfs. Fluctuations are vey typical for this time of year due to run-off. As the peaks and the valleys of the fluctuations start to get closer together the fishing really takes off. Tim Wilson of the Pyramid Lake Marina and RV Park at (775) 476-1156: It is very windy, this is not a fishing day (Monday). Fishing has been slow, but the fish are still hitting on Cooper Johns and Woolly Bugger flies at The Nets and off some of the south beaches. The boaters are doing fair, down at 70 feet, with Apex lures.

Fishing has picked up. A 6.5 pound rainbow on a nightcrawler.

Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): On Sunday, Ricky Howard of Coleville caught a 6-pound, 6-ounce Largemouth Bass from shore on the south end with a Rapala lure. On Friday, Joe Buffo of Minden caught a 3-pound, 14-ounce rainbow while trolling at the south end with flashers and a nightcrawler. Sunday, two other boat anglers reported limits of average size rainbows.

Largemouth Bass fishing is still very good. They are using plastic or rubber worms, both from shore and float tubes. One angler was even catching them with a rubber frog.?Į?Į

Dennis Dunn, Mark and Scott at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: Bass fishing in Saturday's tournament was lousy. The perch were hitting any lure thrown out. Trout are good on nightcrawlers, floated with Power Bait.

Anglers have been reeling in what one park ranger described as "nice-sized crappie," as well as largemouth bass and rainbow trout. They recently received another load of fish from the Nevada Dept. of Wildlife. PowerBait, worms, spinners and flies should all catch trout. Crappie and bass anglers may want to try jigs and plastic baits.

Striped bass have not been very cooperative for anglers and fishing is still slow. Only a handful of fish were caught over the weekend, and they came from various parts of the lake. Trolling, still-fishing from the bank and chucking hardware all produced fish, which weighed from two to four pounds. Channel cats are also starting to show up and have been taken on chicken

Striped bass fishing has picked up substantially during the past week. Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel clerks checked 234 stripers at one of the fish cleaning stations in one day. Most of those were caught in the Vegas Bay arm though shore anglers have also been catching some fish along the beaches. In the Overton arm fishermen are catching fish at in the vicinity
