The weather has been such a roller coaster ride this spring. Today near freezing after last 4 days of heavy wind. One week we have snow and wind then next record highs 80-86 then followed by more wind then cold. I’m ready for some stability in weather. Good news is we’re finding biters each day.

Barbless hooks are helping anglers as weeds thicken across the ponds. Haymeadow and Cold Springs Reservoirs have been good for crappies with anglers using small jigs and night crawlers. Bass are active and hitting on jigs and tubes. The other ponds are offering good fly fishing for trout early in the day and towards evening as they hit the surface for bugs.

The park has been busy with anglers going after trout. Trout action has been best at sunrise and sunset. They are taking various colors of PowerBait and night crawlers. Striped bass are biting just south of Davis Dam and throughout Big Bend State Recreation Area. A variety of topwater lures, swimbaits, and anchovies are getting hit. Anglers targeting rainbow trout are having success with mice tails and PowerBait. Catfish can be found hiding in the shadows of vegetation along the shoreline of the river.
