Fish Reports

There is ice in the coves and the south end of the lake but still some shoreline with open water to fish. The warm weather and even some rain here this week, is keeping the lake from freezing over. It looks like Sunday, December 11, will be the best day for fishing for the next 10 days as we are in a very wet cycle

Cave Lake is covered with very unsafe ice. With next weekend’s lows approaching zero, it won’t be long until we have safe ice here. However, early in the season, ice conditions can change very rapidly, so always check the thickness before getting too far from shore.

No recent report for this lake. It is probably covered with unsafe ice and with the precipitation forecast, anglers may have to walk in only to find it unfishable.

Dropping temps has left most of the reservoir covered with a thin layer of ice. Some anglers have found a few open spots or broken the ice along the shore line to find some success for rainbows using powerbait or nightcrawlers.

The reservoir hasn’t seen much action this past week due to the thin layer of ice, which is unsafe to walk on.

The upper waters are available for fishing. There is good fishing for catfish. Also, some huge carp make it a fun water.

Trout stocking has begun and the latest stocking was the week of Nov. 6. The next stocking is tentatively scheduled for the week of Dec. 18. The best bait is reported to be yellow and orange power bait and of course night crawlers. Try small spinner baits if the power baits are not working. Things will change this week as an AR is aimed at Nor Cal, lots of rain and snow expected. Good news for both Pyramid Lake in Nevada, and on the Truckee River. Looks like the storm door could remain open for the rest of the month. We need it. Look for the Truckee River to start pumping after this weekend. 200 right now or so

The lake level is currently 636.8 feet above msl. This elevation reefs and sandbars are exposed so be very careful of rocks just under the surface. The fishing dock at Katherine's Landing produced some nice fish. The catfish bite is picking up as Scott’s 9.12 pound channel catfish shows. He likes using chicken liver and anchovies if the liver doesn’t get bites.

The National Park Service has been working to improve conditions at South Cove launch ramp, but 4x4 vehicles are recommended for launching/retrieving boats. Up on Lake Mohave We have some striper action. Fishing has been good. Don James and his fishing partner Don Coffin fished near Hells Kitchen with a gold chub lure. They caught and released a 31 inch 18 pound cutthroat trout. As of today, the lake has been planted with over 15,000 pounds of trout from the Nevada Department of Wildlife. I have not received the information on the derby as of yet.
