🚨 Ice update 🚨

by WILD HORSE STATE RECREATION AREA
As we enter spring, the ice on the reservoir will begin melting at an accelerated rate. We have attached a few photos with different locations around the reservoir in which water has been exposed. We will no longer be providing ice thickness updates due to safety concerns. We do not recommend ice fishing on the reservoir at this time due to thinner ice levels. We

The fishing at Pyramid seemed to improve this week with the overcast, stormy days

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fishing at Pyramid seemed to improve this week with the overcast, stormy days. While it still isn’t as good as it may typically be for this time of year, we are happy to report a bit of an improvement from the slower days over the last few weeks. On the sunnier days we are begging to see some of the summit strain cutthroats cruise

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The water temps and subsequently the fish’s metabolisms dropped this week causing a decrease in activity. The activity from the skwala stoneflies also decreased, further adding to the slower days this week compared to last. The big positive from the cold front pushing through the Reno/Tahoe area is the pause of runoff, causing the river to drop 100-150 CFS and run clear again. This will

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The water level is very high. I fished with my friend Matt Wicks. We trolled the west side of the lake with F5 and F7and  blk/gld and perch colored Rapalas. We caught 14 rainbows in the 12 to 21 inch class, 1 tiger trout and a 19 inch brown trout. The day started slow and picked up about 10am. I talked with a few other

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
Well, if you've been fishing lately, you know it's slow. The first part of spring has most of the fish in spawn or pre-spawn. While the fish are on the nest guarding the eggs, they are not interested in eating for a bit. Personally, I'm not a fan of taking the fish off the nest as it kills the eggs. Anyway, the striper bite is a

Spring is here, kinda

by MATT KOLES
Spring is here, kinda. Still snowing though. That’s Spring in the mountains. Few nice days, then some snow, then mainly wind. I can say however, the fishing is good, and my favorite time to fish is Spring on the Truckee River. Welp, we have a lot of snow up top now and eventually that snow is going to melt. We’re kinda pre-runoff right now. The river will get

Starting to Get Bookings for the 2024 Season

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
Haven’t had any reports from the ranch lately but we do have some clients booked up for next week, we’ll try to get some reports from them and let you know what’s up. It’s llikely fishing similar to the Rosachi section with the same patterns being successful as listed above. We’re starting to get a fair amount of bookings so if you want some time

Lots of good nymph action as well as a few good streamer and dry reports lately

Flows are prime through Reno

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing has been excellent this winter and should remain that way until we see some heat and runoff. Flows are prime through Reno and the river is healthier than it has been in a long time. Water temps are prime and fish are very aggressive. Fly fisherman are loving how plentiful the insect are and will be this summer. Baetis mayflies are slowing down a

The East Walker is prime and flowing at 100 cfs

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The East Walker is prime and flowing at 100 cfs. There’s just enough water to keep fish from being spooky this time of year. Recent surveys showed record populations above and below the Elbow access. Fishing should remain excellent until there’s a call for water when it warm up some. Winter stoneflies are still around, but should slow down with the spring warmth. Spin fishing

Angler Report: Topaz Lake

by FISH REPORTS STAFF

Pyramid Lake FIshing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Pyramid saw another slow week of fishing, which was expected with the sunnier days. In the long run these warm days will bring water temps up and initiate the annual cutthroat spawn. However, in regard to this week, the water is still in the low 40’s, keeping the fish looking for that deeper water, making slow days for the shore angler. During these days, the best

Incredible week on the river

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
As we alluded to in the opener, this has been an incredible week on the river. We are so happy to see the fish populations in the Truckee looking as healthy as ever, with some truly epic fish caught, including an incredible brown caught by 11-year-old Adam Lapointe, while on a guided trip through the shop this Wednesday. While it would be easy to see

High sun and low winds have made fishing slow the last few days

by RENO FLY SHOP
High sun and low winds have made fishing slow the last few days. A silver lining to the tough fishing is that the surface temps have risen nicely from the previous storm. We are seeing fish cruising in the afternoons and we are getting closer to the spawn.  We do have a smaller storm system moving in for the next week and I believe this will

The Truckee River has fished very well in the last few weeks as Spring has begun

Additionally, there have been caddis present on warmer afternoons.  The morning fishing has consisted of
