Jiggs Reservoir is ice free. Expect muddy conditions along the shorelines with upcoming precipitatoin in the forecast. Fishing should be fair to good for trout in the 10″ range. Try worms, spinners, and PowerBait near the bottom.

The South Lake has unsafe ice

Expect another week or so of suitable ice fishing conditions

As of 03/19/24, officials at the State Park measured an average 12″ of ice near the boat ramp, with the edges of the reservoir just beginning to soften. Expect another week or so of suitable ice fishing conditions before we transition to the ice off. Remember, ice thickness is variable throughout the reservoir. Always sample the ice for yourself and come prepared with safety equipment.

The boat ramp is officially open and the dock is in the water

The boat ramp is officially open and the dock is in the water. Shoreline anglers continue to have luck fishing on the southwest side of the lake, catching rainbow trout in the 15″-18” range, with a few brown trout in the mix. Remaining ice is unsafe at this time. Stay off all ice during the ice off. Anglers fishing the open water are landing trout with combinations of Powerbait and worms or small spinners. Remaining ice is unsafe. Stay off all ice during the ice off. Expect soft and muddy shorelines, as well as a muddy road with upcoming precipitation in the forecast. Shoreline anglers should expect good catch rates with rainbow trout averaging 9″ to 10″ when using worms, PowerBait, and small spinners.

As of 03/21, the East Fork of the Owyhee below the dam was flowing at 3.04 cfs while at the gage at Mountain City is showing 307 cfs. Fishing should be fair just below the dam down to the Beaver Creek access point.
