Donner Lake remains at full capacity, with water temperatures holding in the low to mid-50s. Shore anglers continue to find success targeting rainbow trout, particularly along the west end of the lake, using PowerBait, worms, and a variety of spinners. Mackinaw fishing remains productive as fish continue cruising relatively shallow depths between 40 and 70 feet, with heavy spoons producing consistent action. Kokanee fishing has also improved in recent weeks, with fish feeding aggressively despite still being on the smaller side. Anglers targeting kokanee should focus around China Cove and troll flashers or hoochies between 40 and 60 feet for the best opportunity. With it being 4th of July weekend, first light of the day is the best time to try to fish, but if crowds are not your thing, avoid this lake this weekend.
