Jakes Creek Reservoir is low and weedy. Weeds may inhibit shoreline access.  Anglers should access the middle of the reservoir with kayaks, float-tubes, etc. for better opportunity. Water temperatures remain in the low 70’s.  Bass fishing is fair, with fish in the 11-13 inch range being caught. Try soft plastics in darker colors with a little sparkle. Catfishing has also been fair, with just a few fish in the 3-5 pound range being caught.

Fishing for trout remains slow, but there is still opportunity to catch fish up to 18″. Copper johns, pheasant tail nymphs, and gold ripped hare’s ears usually do well. Switch to dry flies or hoppers if the nymph bite is slow. Bait anglers can try a combination of nightcrawlers and PowerBait. Small, flashy spinners like rooster tails and Panther Martins should also work well. Warm water temperatures are hard on trout, please consider fishing early in the morning and late in the evenings when surface temperatures are down to prevent angling related fish mortalities.
