Truckee River Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
Hot is the word here in Tahoe/Truckee/Reno on the Truckee River.  Nice in the mornings, hot as hell in the afternoons. They will set a record for consecutive days over 90 in Reno this summer. Thankfully, we have water in the river this summer or they’d been nuked already. I have done a little guiding in NV-Reno, on the Truckee River. The future looks bright for the

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
Pretty good solid fishing on the Truckee River. Flows have stayed pretty steady this week at just under 500 cubes here in the Hirsch. Good average summertime flows. These fish are back in all their summertime holding spots. Trouts have moved into last oxygenated water. It is hot out and trout need cool water. The cool water is in the fast stuff. Yes, you will need to

I talked with fellow angler and long time friend Dan Maldonado. He fished a couple weeks ago with his wife and had good success on the California side with various colors of powerbait. Dan told me the rainbows were 14 to 19 inches and very clean and healthy. If you decide to do some trolling, I would get out early and be off the lake by

All roads in are Closed. You'll have to hike in. NDOW is working with road crews to see if repairs can be made, but due to the amount of damage everywhere from this epic winter, it probably isn't something high on their radar.

Water flows are all over the map. Water temps in the morning are running about 60 degrees. It was fishing pretty good. Watch where you are standing, don't be a drowning victim. Deaddrift crawfish, buggers, the standard sierra fare.

A lot of water in the lake, which is pleasant to see. 3 times now, they've gotten close to capacity and they divert the water around Red Hill. The inlet area is off color far sade near the campgrounds will be better. Bass fishing is sporatic right now.

E. Carson NV Fish Report

by LIZ WEIRAUCH
Flows: between 1150 and 950cfs Getting a losing a few more cfs (Cubic Feet per Second) off of the irrigation canals. It's pretty close to fishable (not really wadable) We'll be taking a water temp next week to let NDOW know the temps for a stocking, though we'd prefer it to be down to the 500 cfs level so the fish are not swept into

Truckee River Fishing Report -7-10-17

by MATT KOLES
Flows have lowered below 1000 k on the Truckee River. 910 today in the Hirsch to be exact. Been a long time coming. Hot is the word up here. Been pretty hot this summer. Been over 90 every afternoon here in the Hirsch. Your best bet is to fish in the morning until noon, and again before dark. There’s a fire right now below Farad East of

Big Truckee Fish Report

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
FLOWS MAY BE THE LOWEST FOR THE SEASON AND THE BUGS ARE OUT! With the current flows, one will start looking to fish different water now. Trout this time of year, with the water level coming down, will be found in the usual places such as seams and faster water! Get proficient with your nymphing techniques because the payoff could be one of the elusive big

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

The transition has started from spring to summer fishing. You may have to work a little harder for the mac's. Most have come in at 1 to 6 lbs with a few in the 7 to 19 lb class. Best action has been the Tahoe City shelf or the Sugarpine Point area. Dodger and a minnow is most productive. The Chrome dodger and a white

FLOWS HAVE COME DOWN OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS! With the current flows being high one will still be fishing the softer water closer to the bank, with flow to it, as trout will not be fighting the higher flows found in the middle of the river. Trout this time of year, and in the situation we’re in, can be found in some shallow water

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The bite is on,  but you need to get on the lake as early as possible. The north end of the lake has been most productive. The Tahoe shelf to Cal/Neva point. Sand harbor to Logan Shoals has had fair action. Average Mackinaw has been in the 1-5 lb range. With a few up to 15 lbs. Top linners have been doing good if you

The water level has been up to capacity then down a little over the last couple weeks. A few reports for shore anglers on the east side of the lake in the county park. They have done fair early morning and evening with Powerbait. Trollers have been using flashers and a night crawler in deeper waters for average sized rainbows.

Still Big Waters

by MATT KOLES
Still not much change in flows on the Truckee River.  We’ve been hovering around 2,500 cfs here in the Hirsch. Better than 5,000 k, but still really big water. Flows will drop on July 2’nd on the Truckee River. Looks like they will come down to about 800 cfs or so below Boca. That will be just about right. 7 months of big water. For now we’re getting

Truckee River Update

by MATT KOLES
No major changes in flows yet on the Truckee River. Still pretty big, but the fishing is good. Mostly nymphing and streamer fishing. The streamer fishing has been pretty good the last couple weeks. Big and nasty, think sculpins and crayfish. Nymphing is always good. Good nymphs are-green drakes, golden stones, march browns, baetis, worms, and crayfish. Attractor nymphs are good too. Copper johns, princes, and stuff
