Western Nevada Fish Reports

Still to Low

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Trout Creek to Stateline is barbless flies and lures only. No beat or scented lures. Catch & Release Only. Please remember that 1,000 feet below Tahoe City to Trout Creek is CLOSED to fishing. The recent flows are as follows: Glenside 18.5 CFS, Prosser 22 CPS, Boca 98 CFS, and Farad 111 CFS. The water temps are between 34-38

Best to Stay Away for Now

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Not sure what to say as temps below the Boca outflow are cold for the trout and with flows at 88 and 96 cfs respectively, it's entirely up to you. My stance is I wouldn't fish but that's me. If you do fish the main river just be cognizant not to fish spawning Browns off their beds. The DFW doesn't stock Browns

Big Salty Lake Update

by TAHOE FLY FISHING STAFF
And of course that big salty lake in the dessert is always worth a go. Look for those windy gnarly days, you know those days when you look outside and think “no I don’t think I wanna go fish today”. That’s the day you wanna go to Pyramid. We have had some great days out there this fall and looking forward to great winter!

Excellent Fishing

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The fishing at Pyramid Lake has been excellent from shore. The bite should continue to be very good in this unsettled weather.

Still Low

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The Truckee River is still low. We the recent storms we say the water level rise but it has fallen back down again. Nymphing is the ticket right now. It is supposed to starting snowing at anytime. We are expecting up to one foot in Truckee from this storm.

Quanity Down Quality Up

by MATT KOLES
Pyramid Lake has been good. Sure, I’ve had some shitty days out at the lake, but if you can stay until dark even on those slow days you should get some grabs. Cloud cover and wind are your friend, but it is winter now at the lake and the quantity will drop, but the quality will go up. You just have to man up, brace

El Nino Storms could create Great Winter Fishing

by MATT KOLES
The Truckee River has been very cold, low flows, and massive anchor ice forming. It has not been a good week to fish the river. With the low flows and extremely low air temps this last week, anchor ice has formed on almost it’s entire length. That was the coldest we’ve been since ’13. It was -14 here in the Hirsch. Now it is warming

Truckee River Update

by TAHOE FLY FISHING STAFF
This past week has been cold to say the least. With temps in the teens to single digits, winter is here and the crowds are lacking. At least on the water. With the ski season gearing up for most means the fishing season is quieting down for the seasonal crowd around here. But that doesn’t mean the fish are taking

Eighteen Pounder Weighed In

by CROSBY LODGE
Fishing is finally starting to pick up for both shore and boat on November 28th angler Terry Ryan of Fernley NV - 18 lb 8oz 33in fishing from a boat at Block House using a torpedo (color unspecified) and 15 lb 15.2oz 32.5in fishing from a boat at Popcorn using a purple flat fish Doug Ouellette of Pyramid Lake Guide Service says shore fishers also

Cutt bite takes off at Pyramid

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Bite took off mid-week. Stormy weather has been a big help. Shore anglers are doing best. Both spinning and fly fishing account for action. Monument and Blockhouse are good spots to try. It's Cold!

by MATT KOLES
A very cold arctic air mass has swept down and blanketed all of Truckee-Reno-and Lake Tahoe with very cold temps. We picked up almost a foot of snow here in the Hirsch, and upwards of 2 feet on top. Honestly, here in Hirschdale we have not had a storm like this since ’11. I actually used the snowblower on this one. Pyramid Lake is where

Big Boys are Biting

by CROSBY LODGE
On November 25th Robert Snibley of Tehokhap, CA - 13 lb 4.8oz 31in fishing shore at Indian Head using a blue and chrome spoon.

Winter Fishing Pattern

by MATT KOLES
The Truckee River is still the same at 80 cfs here in the Hirsch, and 100 cfs down below. We are in a winter type pattern fishing scenario. Things are going to get very, very cold next week, and honesty your best bet is to go fish Pyramid Lake, or the Little Truckee because it will be tough going on the main Truckee. We have

Pyramid bite fair

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Bite remains decent, but far from great. Best fish last week was a 19.3 pounder caught from the shore at Pelican. Equal action from shore or boat. Top shore spots include Spider, Blockhouse, Pelican and Warrior. Boats do well on the north end of the lake, Warrior and Popcorn. Crosby’s Lodge (775) 476-0400 GUIDES: George Molino 775-476-0555 Cutthroat charters; Joe Mendes Eagle Eye Charters –

Squaw Creek Reservoir Fishing Report

by RB BASS
Squaw Creek Reservoir, located at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant between Glen Rose and Granbury, Texas is a clear and deep reservoir. The reservoir serves as the cooling source for two nuclear power units, and due to the warm water generated by the power plant, it is a very popular destination for cold weather fishing. The lake’s surface area is approximately 3,200 acres,

Pyramid Lake Report

by MATT KOLES
It’s cold in the high desert of Western Nevada this November. Feels like the Pyramid Lake everyone remembers.  Reno got almost a foot of snow yesterday and the drive out to the lake was a bit sketch. They probably haven’t seen that much snow-that low since ’11. Low pressures keep rolling in from AK, and that’s what you want for good fly fishing at Pyramid Lake.

Pyramid bite so-so

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Bite has been on the slower side. Five fish larger than 10 pounds were weighed in last week. All but one came from shore. Three came from Pelican. Rough conditions have kept a lot of boats off the water. Crosby’s Lodge (775) 476-0400 GUIDES: George Molino 775-476-0555 Cutthroat charters; Joe Mendes Eagle Eye Charters – 775-574-0900

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TAHOE FLY FISHING STAFF
Above the 267 Bridge: No water coming out of Tahoe so there is no water in the river. See below for where you can fish the Truckee. Year round section (CA) below 267 Bridge. The Truckee river is starting to fish again as the nighttime temps have cooled the river temps are back into the 50’s… Flows have stabilized at around

Big cutts biting at Pyramid

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Wind has been dying off in the afternoon. Big fish of the week was a 19.12 pound cutt caught from a boat. Seventeen cutts larger than 10 pounds were weighed in last week, most were via boat or tube. Catches were spread all over the lake, but the north end seems best. Jigs have been productive. Crosby’s Lodge (775) 476-0400 GUIDES: George Molino 775-476-0555 Cutthroat

Good Fishing for Lake Trout

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Lake Tahoe is the place to be if you are fishing from a boat in northern Nevada. It may be one of the few places you still can launch a boat and catch a fish. Anglers have been reporting good success catching Mackinaw in the 3-5 pound range. Anglers are concentrating in the 150 – 300 feet with white dodgers and minnows. Kwikfish and broken

River is Low

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Very low water conditions. Very few places to fish.

The Boat Ramp is Closed

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The boat ramp is closed and the reservoir is quickly receding. Fish will actually be concentrated and the persistent angler can catch fish.

Pyramid bite wide open

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Cutthroat fishing has been excellent, maybe even a better start than last year’s great year. More trout and larger trout are being weighed in. Best action is by boat. Best shore beaches are Pelican and Hells Kitchen. Big fish of the week weighed 17.4 pounds caught. Crosby’s Lodge (775) 476-0400

Carson in slow-down mode
