Things are perfect here on the beautiful Truckee River both in California and Nevada. Perfect weather+perfect flows+bugs=great fishing. It's good out there on the Truckee River. We have had a great week with a lot of bent rods. Flows have dropped to about a normal usual late July average, and it's only the beginning of summer. Thank you if you attended my spring clinics this weekend. I had a great time teaching them. Everyone learned a few things, (I hope), and everyone hooked fish. We nymphed with a few different rigs, fished some dry dropper setups, and did some streamer fishing. The dry fly fishing was surprisingly good as well. I'm cranking right into summer mode now on the Truckee River.

Brown bite has been very good. Guide Mike Nielsen of Tahoe Topliners has been catching 6 to 10 per day from two to six pounds. Rainbows are mixed in. Best year in rainbows in a long time. Macks to six pounds are caught early in the morning trolling down to 60 feet.  Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

I'll give you guys a California side report this week because that's where I've been fishing. I'm sure the Nevada side is fishing well, but I haven't been on it in about ten days or so. The booze parade of inner tubers will be out this weekend through Reno, if you go, go early, or go East of Reno. It'll be a big weekend

LT the other day, but none today. Maybe they'll kick off strong, maybe they won't. They like a solid week of warm weather, rain today, we'll see what happens. Everything else is on the menu, princes, copper johns, hare's ears, and rubberleggs. Of course the real bugs are out too, or about to come out. As you can see I like fishing attractors this time

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is sponsoring a Kids Learn to Fish Clinic May 25, from 8 a.m. to noon. The clinic is designed for children and is free to all participants. The class is limited to the first 20 who sign up. WHAT: The Kids Learn to Fish Clinic is geared for entry anglers. NDOW instructors will demonstrate basic hook and line setup.

Shoreline anglers struggle to get trout. Boaters do best trolling with flashers/nightcrawlers. Bass bite is picking up. A five pound largemouth was caught Tuesday. Smallmouth and largemouth also are active in the south end. Look for rocky areas. Topaz Landing (775) 266-3550
