Lake Tahoe Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Guide Mike Nielsen is getting regular limits of kokanee and mackinaw. Sometimes it’s quick, sometimes it takes a few hours but there has been action each time out on the west end out of Tahoe Keys. One mack larger than 10 pounds was boated on Saturday. Gene St. Denis. Blue Ribbon Fishing (530) 544-6552, Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
There are a lot of little fish to weed through. Bigger fish are further downstream. Fish early and late. During the day is tough to raise a bite. It’s a pocket water game so prepare to high stick. Mountain Hardware & Sports (530) 587-4844

Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Trout fishing is very slow. Few are trolling and shoreline anglers aren’t having luck.  (775) 266-3550

Sometimes the Truckee River kicks out some monsters, like this 30 inch Brown Trout

by MATT KOLES
Robert got this baby on his third cast today. Sometimes the Truckee River kicks some monsters out. 30 inches of brown trout. Robert put the wood to this monster and we landed him before the fish took off into fast water. Good job Robert. Nights have cooled, and the river is starting to fish again.

Good limits of mackinaw have been coming in. average 1 to 5 pounds with a few in the 6 to 12 pound class. They have been feeding heavily on the kokanee and shrimp in the lake. Best areas have been Dollar point to Sugarpine point. One day they are 100 to 150 feet, next day 200 to 220 feet of water. Gene St Denis has

Fishing on the Truckee has pretty good for some and tough for others

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
The flows on the River spiked yesterday from a monster thunderstorm in the Truckee area. It should not affect the river for very long and should be back to normal by the time you read this. What it has done is given the river a shot of cold water and stirred things up a bit after some very consistent flows over the past couple of

The thunderstorms have cooled the Truckee River a bit & created cloud cover which really helped

by MATT KOLES
Much of the same here on the Truckee River. Hit it early, get off the water around lunch time. Thank God we have been saved by thunderstorms the last couple days. It has cooled the water a bit and made for some left over cloud cover at starting time. Crays, stones, caddis, baetis. Crays making up the bulk of food for Truckee trout. We had

Now is a great time to fly fish on the Truckee

It's been a good week on the Truckee but you have to get out early

by MATT KOLES
Though it's hot, she's still kicking out fish, the Truckee River that is. Get out early, fish to lunch or so, and get off the water. Crays fished on a tip, or under an indo are the big producers, followed by golden stones sz#2-6. Put a small caddis, baetis, or pmd dropper of the back. Fast oxygenated water is the key this time of year.

When it's hot on the Truckee, don't fish in the afternoon

by MATT KOLES
We're in the midst of another heat wave here on the Truckee River. Dam hot in the afternoons. Windy too. Come on folks, give the fish a break, don't fish to them in the afternoons when the water is up near 70 degrees. Get on the water early, get off, have lunch and a beer, go again near dark. Repeat that process until it cools

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Truckee River (Ca) Fishing Report- Flows on the Truckee are above 389+ CFS near the town of Truckee and 503+ CFS below Boca Bridge. August 7, 2012 Open above the 267 Bridge. There is a lot of water but the caddis and mayfly hatches in the evenings should bring fish to the surface in the slower sections. Year round section below 267. The fishing became much more

Fishing is good on the Truckee if you know where to look

by MATT KOLES
Nice set of double rainbows for Justin from the lone star state of Texas. To bad we missed that once in lifetime brown trout. Fishing is good if you know where to look. Seems like these fish have been on the move lately. One day they're there, next day they're not. This is the time of year when hatches are waning down, caddis, pmds,

When the Crayfish molt occurs on the Truckee River, trout become like dogs in heat

by MATT KOLES
It's hot, weather wise up here. It's been a hot dry summer. The fishing is still good on the Truckee River. I wouldn't say it's off the charts great, but we're getting into them. Historically, July is the warmest month of the year in Tahoe-Truckee. In August days start getting a bit shorter, nights longer, and by the end of this month I'll be scrambling

It's crayfish time on the Truckee

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
The flows on the Truckee continue to be very consistent from Tahoe City through Reno. Most of the water is still coming out of Lake Tahoe. It is on the warm side and the afternoons are still a little slow. The best part is Wet Wading. Mornings continue to be the best time to be on the river. The evening hatches are all but

The Truckee is fishing good in the mornings, not so good in the afternoons

by MATT KOLES
Been good in the mornings, crappy in the afternoons. Dog days of summer? Yes, and no. If you hit it early and fish the right kind of water you'll have success. If you cruise out there at 2 in the afternoon, you'll be a bit bummed. Both the Cali, and Nevada side of the river are fishing good. Fish have got crayfish, stones, and caddis

Summertime on the Truckee is a good time

by MATT KOLES
Been lagging a little on the posts mostly because it's been a busy week. I've had friends in town, guiding, bbq's, summertime Truckee kind of stuff. The river is good if you get out there in the mornings, shitty in the afternoons, and descent in the evenings. Crays, stones, caddis, sallys, put them in your fly box if you want success on the Truckee River.

Perfect flows and lower daytime temps mean great fishing on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Heading in to our third week of July the river is in great shape. Flows are still up out of Tahoe for the booze crew, and above 500 cubes in the Hirsch and below. Perfect. Cooler daytime temps and colder overnight temps have put the water temps back into the higher 50's during start time. Afternoons have been a windy proposition as of late. Crays,

Guide Mike Nielsen has been getting limits of macks and kokanee in a matter of a few hours. Limits of fish and back in time to get a good table at the nearest pancake house. Action is off the west shore.  Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Fishing is very good for small trout up to 24 inches. The regulated section from Glenshire to the state line is the most productive stretch. Find pocket water and use gold stoneflies during the day. Go to PMD or caddis during the day. There’s dry fly action in the evening. Mountain Hardware & Sports (530) 587-4844

Topaz Lake Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Shore anglers are getting little to no action. Trollers get one to two trout. Best bet is anchoring in the south end and using Power Bait or nightcrawlers. No bass. Water level is dropping rapidly. (775) 266-3550

Mid July on the Truckee and conditions are perfect!

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
The flows have been really consistent over the past couple of weeks from Tahoe City down through Reno. Wet wading season is in full swing as summer conditions are in place. There are still plenty of bugs hatching in the evenings and we are on the doorstep of Crayfish season. If you look at the flows on the river you will see that

The Truckee is fishing well, some big ones you might lose, some smaller ones you might catch

by MATT KOLES
My buddy Morten from Norway made it up to Truckee for a few days. Not really sure if Vikings are from Norway, but I know he likes Whale meat. He catches some big ass Atlantic Salmon back home on the two handers, so tackling some Truckee trout wasn't a problem. We lost some nice fish and caught some small ones, typical Truckee River style. Stoked

The Cali side of the Truckee has been fishing great!

by MATT KOLES
Damn fine my friends, the fishing that is, here on the Truckee River. It's been great on the Cali side in the mornings. If you're fishing the right water, you will be on fish. Gotta fish the fast stuff. Stones, crays, caddis, and sallys. The G-6 pupa is still getting the bulk of my work done, olive and tan. Dry dropper rigs have been effective
