Kokanee bite is red hot along the west shore. Limits are quick. Mackinaw are plentiful, if not large. Gene St. Denis. Blue Ribbon Fishing (530) 544-6552, Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Trout fishing is good with gold stoneflies, caddis and little yellow stones in the evening. Water levels are good. Little Truckee is low and clear and the trout are picky given the heavy pressure. Mountain Hardware & Sports (530) 587-4844

Its so hot on the Truckee you could fry an egg, so fish early

by MATT KOLES
It's hot, 94 here in the Hirsch, hot for us mountain folks, 100 in Reno. Get out there early. If you do, you will be blessed with trouts. Since Tuesday, a little bit more cold tailwater is coming out of Boca, but the majority is coming from Tahoe making water temps in the unhealthy range for trout in the afternoons. To top that off it's

Chuck Fields reported that the fishing has been slow for shore anglers on both ends of the lake. The boaters have been trolling early before the jet skiers arrive. The have been trolling right down the middle of the lake, 20 feet down with flashers and a crawler. You have to work for them, but anglers have brought in a few.  The lake level has

Caddis, Crayfish, Stones, Sallies & Hopper's are all working on the Truckee

by MATT KOLES
Things got hot round these parts. Full on summertime fishing. I've been up on the Cali side this week. Caddis, crayfish, stones, sallys. Fish the fast stuff, get off the water early afternoon, and hit it again before dark. Big drys have been working good too. A big golden stone has accounted for the majority of fish lately, hell, I've even taken the dropper off

Mack bite continues to be good along the west shore of the lake. Plenty of three to six pound macks provide easy limits for trollers getting down 140 to 190 feet. Kokanee bite is uneven.  Gene St. Denis. Blue Ribbon Fishing (530) 544-6552, Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Shore fishing is tough. Trout have moved deeper and trollers are running flashers and nightcrawlers 35 feet deep. There are a lot of ski boats on the lake and that makes it tough for the anglers. Lake has dropped six feet and that have pushed the bass offshore. (775) 266-3550

If you are fishing the Truckee pay special attention to the water, the hatches are very good

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
The flows have come down on most of the river over the past few days. The Truckee is in great shape and has just about perfect flows from Tahoe City through Reno. A few things to keep an eye on this time of year are where the water is coming from. Most of the water is coming directly from Lake Tahoe right now. This puts

Fish in the Truckee foam are chewing caddis, in the pocket water they are after pupa and stones

Finally, a little relief from the water master. Flows in the Hirsch and down below are around 600 cubes. Down from 750 that had been lurking around for the last few weeks. Water is still coming out of Tahoe, but at Boca, they stuck a cork in it. This makes a huge difference. My old seams and slots have opened back up, and fish are

Very good fishing on the Truckee, great caddis hatch in the afternoons

by MATT KOLES
Summertime on the Truckee River, out guiding every day, meeting lots of new folks, not a bad deal. Been introducing the sport to a lot of new people as well. Fishing has been solid all week. Caddis of course, and the crayfish bite picking up. Been spending time on both sides of the river, Cali and Nevada. No one side is better than the other,

Limits of mackinaw are a regular occurrence for guide Mike Nielsen. Most are two to five pounds but there are a few larger. Kokanee fishing has been slow the last few days.  Gene St. Denis. Blue Ribbon Fishing (530) 544-6552, Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Pyramid Lake, NV Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Perch bite is on. Shore/boat fishermen can do well using light fly fishing gear. Best lures include plastic minnows, tube baits, spinners, small jigs, and small streamers. The perch can be selective, so try different colored lures (jigs) until the bite is on. Work lures in or around tufa rocks or off the bottom around submerged tufa rocks for best results. There are a lot of caddis flies, PMDs and yellow sallies. Best fishing is the last hour of light.  Mountain Hardware & Sports (530) 587-4844

The wind finally stopped on Wednesday and anglers are back on the water for the first time in a week. (775) 266-3550

The wind has been key to fishing on the Truckee, you may need to find some cover

by MATT KOLES
Wind, wind, and more wind. That seems to be the prognosis this first week of summer. Afternoons have been down right gnarly windy up here. If the forecast calls for wind start early and find some spots on the river with some cover. Not much has changed flow wise, or bug wise. They still have the gates open on Tahoe, and Boca. Fish have adjusted

Wind is affecting fishing on the Truckee, but the fish are still biting

Flows are up on the Truckee, but the hatches are still good and so is the fishing

by TRUCKEE RIVER OUTFITTERS
You would think after an unusually light winter snowpack, the water master would be holding back a little water. A week ago that was the case but in the last 4-5 days flows have increased on the Truckee. While the river is fishable from Tahoe City through Reno it is just a little strange to see so much water being shifted to lower

Fish have moved to deeper water. Jig bite has been good for mackinaw weighing three to six pounds. Some days are better than others. It’s no sure thing. Last brown trout was caught last Friday. Gene St. Denis. Blue Ribbon Fishing (530) 544-6552, Mike Nielsen (530) 721-0593

Truckee River Fish Report

by NOR CAL FISH REPORTS
Flows on the Truckee are above 335 CFS near the town of Truckee and 746+ CFS below Boca Bridge.  June 20, 2012 Open above the 267 Bridge.  There is a lot of water but the caddis and sally hatches in the evenings should bring fish to the surface in the slower sections. Year round section below 267.    The fishing became much more challenging with the release of

The flows are up on the Truckee & we have to work a little harder for those trout

by MATT KOLES
It's rafting season near Tahoe City and flows are up to accommodate the almighty rafting dollar. Bummer, as they have water coming out of Boca as well. I was just settling in for an easy summer of guiding, looks like I'll be working for them trouts a little harder than usual. Flows in Truckee are about 350, Hirschdale 750, and around Reno, near 600.
