Sneaking a day in on the Truckee between storms

Snuck a session with a client in today between storms, on a very cold and windy Truckee River day. We should get a good dumping the next few days. Won't really hurt the fishing as long as it snows, which it will, snow good, rain bad. Access, of course, will be an issue up on the Cali side, but the farther you go

Lake Tahoe Fish Report

Mackinaw fishing is very good. Fish are being found deep (200 to 300 feet deep) because of clear skies. Shrimp are congregating at underwater springs and so are the macks. Good spots have been CalNeva Point, Dollar Point and Sugar Pine Point. Limits of four to eight pounds are routine. Small fish have been scarce. Toplining has been so-so. Trollers are out-producing shore anglers. Rapalas in perch, brown or rainbow pulled through the south end of the lake get fish averaging a pound. Fish are between five to seven deep and then between 15 and 20 feet. Trout are shallower early. (775) 266-3550

The flows on the Truckee are perfect. Access is not an issue right now and the fishing has been pretty good. Fish are holding in slower deeper pools. Baetis and Midges have been hatching sporadically and there have also been a few Stonefly sightings. The best days for bugs are the cloudy ones.
