While it was unfortunate to see the water along 89 South remain so low last year, even after the second biggest recorded snowpack in history, the positive of the new management style of Lake Tahoe’s water levels is that the lake is already full this spring. Flows are about to go way up with the spring snowmelt. Fishing for bass above Mexican Dam should pick up when we reach the end of runoff. Trout fishing should be good where trout are stocked following the peak runoff.

Flows are up and will continue to increase as we finally start to see our runoff peak over the next month. Stocking around Broken Dam will pickup when flows start to come down later this spring. High flows will make wading dangerous, be sure to use caution if you must get out.

The walleye and wiper fishing was excellent at the lake last year and should fish well this year given the precipitation we received this winter. Warmer temperatures will help with the consistency, until then, expect a mix of good and fair days on the water. Night crawlers under a bobber or carp cut bait from shore seemed to be the best bet.
