The fishing on the Truckee has been nothing if not consistent. The dry fly bite along Glenshire Drive, while maybe not happening every day, can be present mid-day into early afternoon and provides a great opportunity to catch fish on top on the Truckee River, an admittingly rare treat on our river system. The last storm dropped the surface temps clearing out the bait balls to deeper water. Reports have been slow from shore, with boaters and float tubers having better luck. The lake is in a transition phase right now, shore fishing will improve once more winter storms roll in and water temps drop below 55°. Crossing our fingers for more bad weather!

The lake level has dropped a few feet over the last few weeks. The NDOW has planted 10K ponds of catchable trout over the last month. Fishing has been good for boaters using Rapalas or flashers and a crawler. I would also try a Roostertail or Panther Martin spinner about 100 ft behind the boat on monofilament. Great Fall fishing on the Truckee River. Bummer, Niners lost, but at least the Eagles lost also.  Pretty good flows, nice warm weather. Little too warm for the streamer and dry fly fishing, but nymphing is off the hook, no pun intended. Looking like Indian Summer this week, so probably more of the same.             On 8/29/2023 the Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Complex completed stocking 100,000 Pilot Peak strain Lahontan cutthroat trout into Lake Tahoe for the 2023 season. A total of 25% of the trout stocked this year were tagged with a T-bar anchor tag that has a unique ID and phone number on it. Pyramid Lake opened with a bang, tons of big fish were caught, and it appears as though the 30 pound mark may have been broken. We saw lots of fish over 20 pounds and plenty of numbers as well.
