Lower flows this week on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Lower flows this week on the Truckee River. Flows came down right after I wrote my last post. They’ve been hovering right under 200 cfs here in the Hirsch. They’re a bit higher through Farad, and unfortunately pretty low in Reno. We all knew if was coming. The only silver lining, nothing’s coming out of Boca.  At least we’ll have some water this fall. Smokes been bad

A couple changes on the Truckee River This Week

by MATT KOLES
A couple changes on the Truckee River. Weather is cooler, and flows have dropped. Truckee didn’t get out of the 60’s the other day. Flows are down to around 300 cfs here in the Hirsch. The weathers the big thing. Lows in the 30’s and highs barely bucking 70. We’ve pretty much had 90’s all summer. Water temps this week are not an issue. We’re getting towards

Lahontan Reservoir Update

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Prolonged drought conditions have resulted in drastically reduced reservoir levels at Lahontan State Recreation Area. Due to low water levels, boating is not advisable and swimming access may be difficult in most areas. The Silver Springs side of the park does not have any swimmable water. In addition, visitors should use caution while driving, as areas of deep sand and mud are present, and the top

Flows Have Dropped on The Truckee

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
The flows have dropped on the Truckee River from Lake Tahoe to Boca. Because of the lower flows in the upper river, anglers are advised to only fish early mornings. By 11am, the water temperature is most likely too hot in that section. From Boca to the Stateline, anglers will find the fish much happier because of the cooler and deeper water. The fishing has

Water temps are good in the morning and warm later in the day. Typical August conditions. Fish are still in fast water. Tight line nymphing is the rig to target that water with. Crayfish, and

Good fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Good fishing on the Truckee River.  The smoke has rolled back in though. Some days are better than others with the smoke. Just depends on what the winds doing. Flows are down just a tad from last week out of Lake Tahoe. They bumped them up out of Boca. That’s all cold bottom fed water out of Boca. That along with colder mornings have put water temps
