Still hot on the Truckee River, and another heat wave looming

by MATT KOLES
Still hot on the Truckee River, and another heat wave looming.  Good news is that overnight lows, at least in Truckee, haven’t been bad. 46 this morning in the Hirsch. Been right around 50 every morning. That means get out early and the fishing should be good. Soon as the sun gets high in the sky, them trouts get inactive. You got dark thirty to about

Truckee River Report - Lost Art of Wet Flies and Patience

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
Summer and Fall are a great time to find Brown Trout on Rivers, and most of us go about it looking for them in all the usual locations. Normally this means fishing stretches that find themselves heavily pressured due to their disposition to be a quality trout habitat, AKA “this is where everyone is landing them”. I would argue that this is a very difficult

Flows are holding real steady at 450 cubes here in the Hirsch

by MATT KOLES
Big 4th of July weekend on the Truckee River. Hot, but not as hot as last week. Running in the 80’s, instead of the 90’s. Even had some t-storms this week. Flows are holding real steady at 450 cubes here in the Hirsch. Not bad. Get out early and get off the water at least noon on the CA side. Nevada, I’d be off the water around 10.

Fishing conditions on the Truckee River are good right now

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Fishing conditions on the Truckee River are good right now. Flows are still great out of Lake Tahoe with water temperatures at about 63 degrees in the morning and getting to around 66 during the day. As the days stay hot, anglers should pay attention to the water temperatures to make sure they are not harming the fish. Some recommended flies right now include tan,

Fishing Has Been Good on The North End

by DOUG BUSEY
The boat inspection stations are up at Spooner summit and in Meyers CA. You can not launch a boat that has not been verified and tagged. Fishing has been good on the North end of the lake from Cal/Neva to Tahoe City. Most anglers have been trolling the shelves starting at 150 ft of water and moving to 250 ft as the morning progresses Flashers

Fish Cool and Ethical this Summer

by MATT KOLES
More hot weather. Looks like it could be a hot one here on the Truckee River this summer. Fishing’s good, but you gotta get out there before it gets hot. Get out in the morning and give it a break in the afternoons. Me and my girls are out swimming every afternoon in the river. If my 5 yr olds are out in the water all afternoon,

Truckee River Fishing Report- Watch Those Temps

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
Well, it’s been a scorcher outside and we are all feeling it, including the trouts. With the low flows and lower water levels you will have to practice discipline on the water to help ensure that we have a great fishery when the fall and winter hit. When the water heats up trout lose the ability to recover quickly after a fight, and the higher

Tahoe Kokanee Today

by MIKE NIELSEN
Well went Kokanee trolling today. Been many years since I’ve trolled for them. We generally jig for them because most years they are 12-16 inches which I feel like we’re making bait. Good years they run 15-20 inches and excellent years 18-24 which is rare these days. Grabbed 15 out of 20 in hour and half then moved off for a few lakers. Most were 12-14
