Western Nevada Fish Reports

Put in lil work today. Got about a dozen. Initially the bite was electric as soon as we had three lines in and working on 4 th had triple going. Then spun around and had few more quickies then it stopped. Jigged up some throwbacks and then got into mid morning bite at end!

The Truckee River is seeing consistent evening hatches of yellow sallies, pale morning duns, caddises. Anglers should also be on the lookout for green drakes. The water temperatures in the Truckee River are starting to warm up, but still remain in the 50s. Anglers can expect flows to be more skinny towards Lake Tahoe, while the Glenshire and Hirschdale areas are showing more consistent flows.  FLOWS:

I guess it’s summer on the Truckee River. We had some hot weather last week, and now back in the 60’s-70’s. Just perfect fishing weather. Flows are still up, about 1,100 here in the Hirsch, and a bit higher down river. I’m guessing they will come down in about 2 weeks. You should be thinking green drakes and pale morning duns. This week the Lahontan National Fish Hatchery Complex successfully stocked 4,654 Lahontan Cutthroat trout into the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. In partnership with the hatchery, NDOW FLOY tagged 2,000 of these trout with a unique ID and phone number so anglers can report their catch to us. Please call the number on the tag if you catch a tagged fish! This will help us

Truckee River  A quick bump of flows last week to 1,900 CFS have average daily flows close to 1,000 CFS through the downtown gauge. Bug activity is ramping up as several species of insects are hatching throughout the day. Caddis, PMDs, Little Yellow Stoneflies, are all present in the system. Check out this awesome Rainbow caught by Lisa Fanti at Topaz Lake. She was fishing with her husband, Corey and trolling a Rapala XWrap in trout pattern. Once they netted him, they discovered a 6” fish hanging out of his mouth. They donated that one to the pelicans. The fish weighed in at 6lbs 9 ounces. She caught him at 08:45 on the downrigger at 28 feet.  Thanks for sharing with us

Truckee River  We are currently at 950 Cfs at the downtown Reno gauge. We have passed our annual natural peak flow. This is the peak flow of natural snowmelt and unregulated inflow. Flow in the Truckee River will gradually reduce to our “summer flows” coming from the 7 upstream reservoirs. For those counting the 7 upstream reservoirs controlling water in the Truckee River are, Tahoe, Donner, Prosser, Independence,
