Bluegill, catfish and bass are giving anglers something to tell tales about

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bluegill, catfish and bass are giving anglers something to tell tales about. One lucky angler reeled in a bass that hit on a crankbait at Sunset Park. Catfish are hitting on night crawlers and hot dog pieces. Small hooks baited up with a mealworm or chunk of a night crawler are catching bluegill and green sunfish.

Anglers are finding striper boils throughout the morning, often within 100 feet of the shore

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Anglers are finding striper boils throughout the morning, often within 100 feet of the shore. Topwater Spooks and many variations of shad lures are catching black bass early in the day. Jigs and deep diving jerkbaits seem to work later in the day. Catfish and striper action has been good overnight. Stink baits and anchovies are effective baits for catfish, while anchovies are a good

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
How about some catfish news! Local anglers fishing from shore along the Colorado River, near the Avi Casino on the Arizona side, have been using anchovies for bait. John Andrews and his wife landed a beautiful channel catfish that weighed 10.86 pounds and measured 28 ¾ inches. The channel cat is our most common catfish in the area. Fun story: ever wonder if we’re named after

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

We’ve got some good news from Lake Mohave—it’s fishing well right now, especially for stripers. This is a great time to get out on the water. As a reminder, the lake is lowered about 10 feet around this time each year. This drawdown helps divers access the water to harvest larvae of endangered species raised at the hatchery. The stripers are a little on the thin side,

25.92-pound Striped Bass

by RUSTY
Here along the shores of the Colorado River, the striper bite has been steady with plenty of hookups. Most of the action has been from smaller fish getting to the bait first, but some bigger catches are coming in as well. Local angler Mike Selby landed a beautiful 8.21-pound, 30-inch striper—light for its length—but his 25.92-pound, 41-inch trophy striper is an outstanding catch. He was fishing

Temperatures reaching over 110 F isn’t slowing down the fishing at Willow Beach

by ARIZONA GAME & FISH DEPARTMENT
Temperatures reaching over 110 F isn’t slowing down the fishing at Willow Beach. Good-sized striped bass are being caught consistently with plenty of smaller ones mixed in. Bigger fish are mainly being caught on large swimbaits and plugs in trout patterns. The trout fishing is best the couple of days following these stockings and the go-to tactics are PowerBait and nightcrawlers. Special Regulations: The limit is

The traditional summer trends are holding true on Lake Mohave currently. Both the large striped bass and smallmouth bass are suspended in the deeper water. Smallmouth bass are keying in on the more finesse presentations like small plastics and jigs, while the striped bass are largely being found on big swimbaits. Smaller striped bass can be found in shallower water on smaller swimbaits. Largemouth bass

Lake Mead has been fishing well

Lake Mead has been fishing well. Similar to Lake Mohave, the larger striped bass and smallmouth bass are suspended out in the deeper water above the thermocline. Smallmouth are being caught mainly on finesse presentations, while striped bass anglers are reporting the most success on swimbaits. Largemouth bass are up shallow and can be caught in various ways, but efforts are best focused during the

We’ve got some great river fishing news to share! Local angler James Kirkpatrick landed a few stripers while fishing from shore near the Sunshine Peninsula using anchovies. The Colorado River offers plenty of great spots for catching these fish. This time of year, stripers are mostly running on the smaller side. That’s not to say there aren’t bigger ones out there, but the smaller fish tend

Mohave Fishing Club

by RUSTY
Here’s a great moment to highlight our Mohave Fishing Club! A while back, Gary Regan took a group of local youth out fishing at various spots, including the Nature Center, Rotary Park, Palo Verde, and other great areas. These summer trips are organized through our local high school and give our young anglers a chance to learn and enjoy time on the water. The group included:

We’ve got some great river news to share! Local angler Dawn Leclerc landed a beautiful smallmouth bass while fishing from a dock along the river. She was using a swimbait and caught a 3.92-pound, 24 1/4-inch smallmouth. I did remind her that these fish are typically catch-and-release, but they’re also known to be great eating. Along the shores of the Colorado River below Davis Dam, we’ve

Willow Beach coming in HOT with another monster catch!

Willow Beach coming in HOT with another monster catch! She hooked a beast, now it’s your turn. Who else is reelin’ in trophies this week?

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
This week, our local angler Chris Williams landed a beautiful 14.98-pound striper measuring 36.5 inches in length. While slightly underweight for its size, it’s still an impressive catch! Chris was fishing from shore at Rotary Park using a swimbait to reel in this striper. Reports are coming in that larger stripers are making their way in, and a variety of lures have been producing solid results.

As water temperatures rise the fish are moving to their typical summer patterns

by ARIZONA GAME & FISH DEPARTMENT
As water temperatures rise the fish are moving to their typical summer patterns. Striped bass are being caught off-shore, largely on swimbait style lures or anchovies. Sticking to shad imitations when choosing color patterns would be a great place to start. Smallmouth bass have also moved off-shore, but are being caught on more finesse-style presentations such as small plastics. The largemouth bass are moving up

Lake Mead has historically fished well this time of year

by ARIZONA GAME & FISH DEPARTMENT
Lake Mead has historically fished well this time of year. Striped bass tend to be found off-shore in the cooler water. They can be targeted with swimbaits and anchovies. When selecting swimbait colors, shad imitations are a good starting point. Channel catfish can also be caught well this time of year. Anchovies, nightcrawlers, and squid tend to attract bites. The best times to catch both
