9 Pound Striper

Rea-Ting Lin caught this Striped Bass off the Willow Beach fishing pier today using anchovies. It weighed in at 9.20 pounds. Nice catch!

Try Haymeadow

With warmer weather arriving up north, anglers are reporting good fishing on the management area. One couple caught seven rainbow trout and a black bass while trolling Rooster Tails on Haymeadow Reservoir. They also found success with PowerBait in green with glitter.

Eagle Valley Trout Action

Tiger and rainbow trout are taking green PowerBait and Mepp’s lures with red spots. You can switch things up with a mealworm or night crawler if artificial baits aren’t working.

Echo Canyon Update

Echo Canyon is giving up a variety of fish. Trout are biting on everything from PowerBait to worms. Bass and crappie have been hitting top-water lures like the Micro Spin in chartreuse.

Bobber Action

Anglers are finding some success at the upper marsh for panfish and catfish. Mealworms or night crawlers below a bobber will catch fish.

Striped Bass Alert

Down at Big Bend State Park a fisherman caught a 26-pound striped bass using anchovies while fishing from shore. Further down a father-son team caught a mess of good stripers that included a 13-pound fish. They were fishing from a boat with anchovies.

Due to an equipment failure in its water delivery system, and the subsequent loss of its rainbow trout stocks, the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery has suspended its recreational fish stocking program, which included weekly fish plants at Willow Beach. The hatchery did save and release approximately 11,000 trout in mid-December. Though their numbers will diminish over time, these and holdover fish from previous plants

Stripers Good

Some good stripers have been caught outside of Willow Beach Marina in the past week. While many were around eight pounds, one lucky angler reeled in a fish that tipped the scale at 23 pounds. The biggest fish have been caught from a boat, but shore anglers throwing anchovies also are catching healthy stripers.

Striper Action Picking Up

Striper fishing has finally picked up in the Vegas Wash. On Saturday anglers were catching fish on shad near the shore. Reports are that shad are spawning in the shallows, so now is a good time to fish from shore or near shore in a boat. One guided trip reportedly caught over 50 fish last Friday. The fishing here along the Colorado river below Davis dam is producing some great catches. Our anglers are doing well targeting the stripped bass. In the Casino are on the Arizona side its our local angler David Story with a limit of stripers (10 along the river). Angler Tony Harwood from North Las Vegas, NV checked in with a Lake Mohave Striped Bass Fish Report. Tony said, “I caught this bad boy on Tuesday using half an anchovies! I forgot scale at home so no weight but I released this Striped Bass to fight another day!!! — at Cottonwood Cove @ Lake Mohave.

Colorado River Striper Report

This week its striper action on the Colorado River. I am getting reports that near the dam is producing some great catches. Not much word on limits as of yet (limit is 10 on the river) but anglers are having success on both sides and in the casino area also. In the upper big bend area its some of the larger fish this month. We have

Willow Beach Marina checked in with a nice Striper. They said, "Fat Fish Slayer reeled this striper in on Sunday at Willow Beach! It weighed in at 23.76 lbs. Nice catch!"

Good for Most

Fishing has been good for most anglers. Over the weekend several anglers took to the water in float tubes and caught both tiger and rainbow trout. Fly-fishers did well using brown Woolly Buggers while the spin-fishers found success using Mepp’s style lures with either red spots or white spots.

Fishing has been slow in most of the reservoirs this past week, but should start to pick up once the spring storm systems move out and temperatures warm up. Visitors can expect muddy road conditions so the Nevada Department of Wildlife encourages visitors to use caution while traveling on the management area.

Bows Biting

Fishing continues to be good around the lake for rainbow trout. The fish are taking a variety of baits and lures. Fly-fishermen have been doing well with Woolly Buggers in brown, black or olive colorations.

Below Davis Dam and along Casino Row Anglers have found good fishing for rainbow trout. Some anglers have gone home with their limit. Lake Mohave is starting to produce some good stripers as well. Black bass action has been good when the weather cooperates. Largemouth are showing signs of spawning activity.

Fishing is Good

Largemouth bass fishing has picked up because it’s spawning season and they are easier to find. Look for white circles with a gravel bottom in shallow water. NDOW encourages anglers to practice catch-and-release when possible during the spawning period. Striper fishing is picking up as well. Despite the rough weather conditions over the weekend one lucky angler reeled in five stripers.
