Fishing has been good at times and tough at times

The Truckee River is flowing at 550-600 CFS through the downtown gauge. Temperatures look perfect as we start the day around 53 degrees and the river is topping out at 61 degrees. Water Levels Has Been Going Down

The lake water level has been going down for awhile, but has started to rise over the last few days. The fishing has been fair for shore anglers. Most have been using powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers. trollers have had best success with flashers and a night crawler going a little deeper water.

Cold and wet conditions slowed fishing at Kirch this past week. Bass fishing will continue to improve as temperatures rise. Anglers have reported better fishing in the evenings. Anglers have found good fishing for rainbow, tiger, and brown trout. The fish will take lures and commercial trout baits. Night crawlers always are a good option, as are an all-silver Panther Martin or a Mepp’s spinner in red and gold. Bass and trout are both hitting Woolly Buggers in black or olive.

Recent rainstorms have resulted in murky water conditions and slightly higher water levels. Crappies are taking jigs from boats and from the dam. Rainbows are taking worms and PowerBait just off the bottom. When weather allows, a small bobber with a leader keeps your bait just above the vegetation.

Bluegill and catfish are taking mealworms and night crawlers throughout the day. The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked bluegill last week. Please discard unwanted fishing line in recycle bins or trash receptacles. Anglers 12 years of age and older need a Nevada fishing license, and there is a three-fish limit at all urban ponds.

Boaters are finding good striped bass action in the Boulder Basin. Anglers are averaging ten fish. The stripers are showing a preference for hard plastics in shad patterns and anchovies. Expect good fishing for trout and fair conditions for bass. The usual worms and PowerBait, as well as small spinners, rooster tails, and panther Martins should work. Fly rodders should be using black or olive wooly buggers or leech patterns, hares ears, PT nymphs and chironomid patterns. This water was stocked with 3,000 trout two weeks ago.

Fishing Has Been Fair to Good

No change here as trout fishing has been fair to good depending upon the day and location, with good water levels. Bass fishing is fair but picking up. Fish are being caught with leech patterns, balanced leeches, crystal buggers, #14-16 hare’s ears, and #16-18 PT nymphs. Other flies working include the usual small nymphs, olive soft hackles, red or blue copper Johns, and prince nymphs.
