Nevada Fish Reports

Fishing is slow due to thin ice covering many parts of the reservoirs. Ice along the shorelines remains throughout the day and is limiting the launch of boats and kayaks. The ice is not safe to walk on. The Nevada Department of Wildlife encourages anglers and hunters to use extreme caution when visiting the area.

The reservoir is covered with thin ice and snow. Ice depths have not yet been checked. Always verify depths before venturing out. Overnight lows are dropping into the teens and daytime high temperatures are reaching into the low 30s.

Fishing reports are slow due to limited shoreline access. The lake is mostly covered in thin ice. Overnight lows are in the low 20s and daytime temperatures are reaching the mid- to high 30s.

Stocked rainbow trout are keeping anglers busy along the Colorado River. The fish are eager to take grubs, spinners and PowerBait in a variety of colors. Anglers are catching their 5-fish limit at Rotary Park and throughout Casino Row. Reports of striped bass and a few smallmouth bass have come in from Sunshine Peninsula. Catfish are hungry for chicken liver, anchovies, and homemade dough baits.

Spinners are the bait of choice for rainbow trout at Willow Beach. Spotted patterns in yellow and red are helping anglers land their limit. Strong winds have kept many boaters off the lake. When the water is calm, diving lures are producing striper catches in the Cottonwood Basin. Shoreline anglers are reporting good striper action just above Davis Dam. One lucky angler caught both an

Swimbaits, topwater lures and live shad are catching stripers in the Las Vegas Bay. In the Virgin Basin, anglers are reporting better striper fishing when jigging spoons around 100 feet. Largemouth bass are taking shad crankbaits or soft plastics on drop shots in the northern part of the Boulder Basin. Catfish action is better at night. The fish are taking shad, anchovies, or stink baits.  

The Truckee River is holding strong at 220 CFS through the downtown gauge. Mornings temperatures are cold, both water and air. For the last week, air temps have pushed into the 50s only a few times and water temps haven’t been over 40 degrees.  You want to focus your fishing after 11 to just before dark as this is when the water will be at it’s

The lake is iced over with unsafe ice, except where the aerator is. Due to the aerator and the size of the lake, ice is generally never safe for ice fishing.  The water level is very low so pray for a good winter to fill this reservoir up. 

The collection ditch was mostly ice free as of December 10.  Fishing has been good for 10 to 16-inch trout at the collection ditch which was stocked with approximately 7,000 trout in October.  Water level in the collection ditch has improved but it has been a bit turbid which is good news for anglers. Wildhorse is covered in unsafe ice with pressure ridges.  No fishing reports from here until it is safe, which will probably be around Christmas. Once the ice is safe expect fishing for both perch and trout to be good.  Fall surveys showed good numbers of quality healthy trout and lots of keeper sized perch in the creel.  The river below the dam has low flows

No recent report, but this lake often mimics South Fork so expect it to be covered in unsafe ice. At last report, fishing was fair to good for 12 to 15-inch trout and bass fishing was very slow.  Black leeches  and chironomid patterns were working for trout. or dark green spinners with contrasting spots are working for spin fishermen.  For the most part, the same

The road is closed and the lake is ice covered.  There will be no fishing reports for this lake until late spring or early summer depending upon the winter.

As of Wednesday, South Fork was 90% covered in unsafe ice.  The only open water for shore fishing was at Jet Ski Beach and fishing was slow.  If there is still open water there this weekend, the usual rainbow sparkle PowerBait fished off the bottom using a slip sinker should work.  Worms can be tried as the sun gets high in the sky and things

Cave Lake is sitting approximately 15 feet below normal water levels.  The lake is covered in unsafe ice.  Due to safety issues with the dam, water is being kept low and with fluctuating water levels, expect unsafe ice for much of the winter.  

The reservoir is currently sitting at approximately 40 to 50% of capacity and is mostly ice free with shore access for fishing.  No report on fishing conditions but expect it to be slow to fair.  The usual worms or PowerBait would be a good place to start.   A total of 4,050 Rainbow Trout were stocked into the reservoir in 2020.  Expect some skim ice along

Comins is mostly covered with five to six inches of safe ice though there are some isolated  spots that have open water and/or thin ice.  Please advance cautiously and drill a test hole or two in the area you want to fish.  Worms seem to work best through the ice though PowerBait can work as well.  Jigging with minnow imitations can also work.  Anglers please

Illipah is covered in unsafe ice.  Expect it to be unsafe for a couple of weeks.

The fishing has been fair up higher on the river for small trout. Remember that in Nevada, the rivers are open to fishing all year.
