Lake Mohave Fishing Report

On Lake Mohave, smallmouth bass are keeping anglers busy at the south end of the Cottonwood Basin while largemouth are showing more activity near Cottonwood Cove. Crawfish lures and soft plastics are the preferred baits. Striped bass boils are being reported between Katherine Landing and Davis Dam.

Catfish are looking for stink baits, chicken liver and night crawlers fished just off the bottom. For bluegill or green sunfish try mealworms and small imitation flies. Soft plastic worms and crawdads are the preferred bait for bass.

Large Striper Boils Are Keeping Anglers Entertained

Large striper boils are keeping anglers entertained all over the lake. Throw a topwater bait, crankbait, or live shad into a boil for a quick bite. Fish caught from the boils are averaging 2 to 5 pounds. Catfish as large as 9 pounds are taking anchovies. The best fishing from shore is taking place in the late evening and early morning.

Haymeadow, Cold Springs, and Adams-McGill are getting a little weedy. Fishing activity has been steady despite the need to fish through or over vegetation along the shorelines. Some anglers are catching large crappies at Haymeadow using crappie jigs. Shoreline fishing is still a good option despite hot temperatures and aquatic vegetation. Trout in the deeper areas are biting on Rooster Tails and damsel fly patterns.

Bass are actively hitting plastic crayfish and worms. With temperatures reaching 90 degrees during the daytime, bass and crappie are the most active game fish. Crappie will hit red and yellow jigs or tubes. Trout are active in the early mornings when water temperatures are the coolest. They are hitting on night crawlers and marshmallows.

Anglers fishing the shorelines of the Colorado River are catching striped bass between 2 and 5 pounds. Fish upwards of 10 pounds are taking topwater baits fished from boat in the deeper waters. A few anglers reported catching rainbow trout on their striped bass baits. Catfish action has been slow. Try fishing anchovies or chicken liver off the bottom in the shallows near vegetation.

Striper Bite is Picking Up

Lake Mohave the striper bite is picking up. Our local anglers Mark Agular and Muzz Pana landed a couple of stripers while fishing from shore.
