Nevada Fish Reports

Cool nighttime temperatures are slowing down the aquatic vegetation and it should be clearing up soon. Crappies have hitting on jigs and plastics back by the reeds. Trout and bass are hitting on spinners and night crawlers.

There is still a bed of aquatic vegetation along much of the shoreline. Anglers are having success casting out past the weeds. The trout bite is improving with overnight temperatures beginning to drop. Anglers are starting out with trout at sunrise and fish throughout the day for bass and crappies. The fish are hitting spinning lures and jigs.

The most striper action is reported near the Big Bend State Recreation Area or just below Davis Dam. Anchovies are the bait of choice, but shad lures should attract fish too. For better fishing conditions, try fishing in the evening when less watercraft are out.

Anglers using trout swimbaits are catching striped bass between 5 and 10 pounds near Willow Beach. Early morning kayakers are reporting fish up to 25 pounds. Lake Mohave anglers are reporting good fishing just above Davis Dam. Smallmouth are chasing imitation shad baits and largemouth are hitting frogs and topwater baits. Fish are weighing up to 6 pounds. Fishing has been good overall at the ponds for bluegill, bass, and catfish.  The best action continues to be in the morning and at sunset, where access is available. Catfish are taking worms and hotdogs. Bluegill are hitting on night crawler pieces and PowerBait grubs. Anglers are catching bass on crankbaits and plastics.

Hemenway and Temple Bar are hot spots for double-digit stripers as anglers have been catching some fish over 10 pounds. Anglers are reporting the best bite before sunrise on anchovies and shad jerkbaits. Largemouth bass action is on at Callville Bay and in the Overton Arm. Fish between 2 and 3 pounds are taking topwater baits and soft plastics in the coves. Worms are producing

Striped bass can easily be caught under crappie lights at night. Try anchoring in around 40 feet and put out your submersible lights. Cut anchovies usually work well. You can fill your ice chest with small stripers. Don Martin recently caught a 32.8-pound striper using this technique. Don’t get your hopes up, though. They are usually much smaller.

The striper bite along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam has been very productive. They are running mostly in the 1- to 3-pound range, but now and again we get a nice surprise. Trout and bass are hitting well on a variety of lures and flies, as well as taking a variety of PowerBait and night crawlers. Shoreline vegetation continues to create problems for some anglers.

Anglers are catching bass and crappie using jigs and small spinning lures. The best action occurs in the early morning hours. The trout bite is improving as overnight temperatures begin to fall. Anglers are using spinners, flies, and PowerBait in sunset sparkle.

Shore anglers are catching stripers between 1 and 3 pounds along the Colorado River. Anchovies or trout pattern lures are producing the most catches. Boaters are having better luck landing larger fish. Few reports about catfish and black bass have come in.

High temperatures are making it tough to catch rainbow trout at Willow Beach. Stripers are hit and miss from the shoreline, but boaters are reporting success just south of Willow Beach. Swimbaits and anchovies are producing catches. The striper bite is beginning to pick up in the Cottonwood Basin. Reports say that fish up to 7 pounds have been hitting anchovies or taking trolled swimbaits.
