Trout fishing has been fair when open water can be found. Fishing for bass has slowed considerably. Majority of activity is now limited to trout in the late afternoons. Bait fishing with dough bait and worms will attract the occasional trout

Fishing is slow for walleye, crappie, wiper and catfish. A few walleye are being caught slowly trolling minnow imitations or worm harnesses. Trolling faster with rapala minnow imitations is a good method for walleye as well. For crappie use bright colored jigs in the flooded vegetation. Fishing has been slow.  Fishing will just continue to improve with good water conditions and spring temperatures. Spin Fisherman are finding that Rapala minnow imitations are working well. Fly Fisherman are picking up an occasional walleye, bass, or carp on chartreuse woolly buggers or clouser minnows.

As a result of declining water levels, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in Walker Lake has increased dramatically to the point that the lake can no longer support its native fish and wildlife populations. The Truckee River has been on fire! Blue winged olive mayflies are hatching daily. The trout are not always looking up for them, but they are expecting the hatch and nymphing has been incredible. Fish are moving into moderately paced water. Not too slow, but also not too fast. Focusing on seams and foam lines has also been a key factor to find feeding fish.

Rain is expected for this coming weekend. Ice is thawing rapidly and too thin for ice fishing. Holes for fishing can be drilled along the dock along the dock.

Ice has completely thawed. Rainbow trout are taking worms and rainbow PowerBait.

Stocked rainbow trout are schooling up below Davis Dam and through Casino Row. The fish are biting on PowerBait, night crawlers, and spinners. Boaters and shore anglers are both catching fish. Anglers are reporting that stripers are biting on soft plastics and trout swimbaits below Davis Dam. With temperatures in the mid- high- 60’s largemouth bass should grow increasingly active in the vegetation near shore.

Crankbaits and plastics have been working for smallmouth bass at the south end of the lake. Look for bass hanging around boulder fields, off points and near habitat structures in well-developed coves. Striped bass have been showing up south of Willow Beach with anglers having success with trout imitations and anchovies.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife recently stocked trout in the ponds at Sunset, Lorenzi, and Veterans Memorial parks. Trout are taking PowerBait, small spinning lures and spoons. Silver varieties of lures are working the best. With temperatures beginning to warm up, catfish are becoming more active and have hit worms and stink baits.

Silver and green colored jerkbaits are fooling stripers around Kingman Wash and along drop-offs by the water in-take. Anglers are having a hard time finding shad near Government Wash but are finding success with anchovies fished off the bottom. Largemouth bass are still hard to find, but fishing should pick up when water temperatures increase.

The Truckee is fishing great. Especially in Nevada. Blue Wing Olives and Midges are out in force and fish can even be caught on dries right now. Middle of the day is the time to go and be ready for anything. Nymphing with Baetis in size 16-18 and Midges in 18 are a good way to go. Fish are in slower deeper water so take
