by THE TROUT FITTER STAFF

Weather is Rough But Fishing is Great

by RUSTY
The weather is rough but the fishing is great, well for trout anyway. this time of year we do get some of the larger stripers cruising our waterways. The area near the Laughlin bridge and the Colorado River below the Davis Dam has produced some great stripped bass catches. This is a super time for shore fishing for both stripers and our rainbow trout that

Truckee River Fishing Report

by MATT KOLES
Wet and soggy. Better than cold and dry though. If you came up last week, way too cold to fish. I didn’t bother going out, or take on any guide trips. We had cold and snow. This week is different. Warmer and wet. Some snow and mostly rain here in the Hirsch. Much warmer air temps this week and a little boost in the flows. Fishing is

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Cooler temperatures and shorter days are bringing fish in closer to shore, improving shore fishing . We expect this to further improve within the next few weeks. Lure fishermen are doing better off shore due to the fact they are able to cover deeper water more efficiently and those using flies should stick with stripping streamers off of the deeper beaches. Trollers are doing very

The Storms Are Treating The Lake Very Nicely!

by RENO FLY SHOP
The storms have been treating the lake very nicely! Surface temps are sub 50 degrees, and with the overcast and low pressure the Lahontan Cutthroat are getting shallow and feeding well. The indicator bite has begun to pick up, but the retrieve bite is still my preferred method. The trout seem to be pretty well scattered throughout the lake we’re seeing fish being caught on the

Water Clarity Has Been Really Clear

by RENO FLY SHOP
Truckee River  The water clarity on the Truckee River as of late has been really clear, making fish pretty spooky. Storms rolling in for the next few weeks will bring in some needed moisture and raise the river a few CFS while raising some turbidity as well. Otherwise, the fish are focused on small flies; sizes 18-20 and smaller if you dare. The trout have also

Flow Rates and Water Conditions: Temperatures have come down into the mid 50's and the water is gin clear. Fishing Conditions and Hatches: Fishing here is really starting to take off with the cooling water temperatures.  November and December are great months to start to target trophy fish here. Last Friday we landed a 17 and a 20 1/2 lb. Cutthroat from the shore. Looks like the high

Colorado River Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Striped bass action has slowed with the arrival of cooler temperatures, but some anglers are still having luck bringing in 4- to 7-pound stripers from Casino Row to Big Bend State Recreation Area. Shore anglers have been bringing in limits rainbow trout with PowerBait, nightcrawlers and a variety of spinners.

Lake Mohave/ Willow Beach Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Catfish are hitting anchovies close to shore. The smallmouth bass bite is best in the coves using swimbaits and shad imitation crankbaits. Striped bass are most active outside of Willow Beach and on the south end of the reservoir near the dam. Anchovies are working well for stripers in the 1- to 3-pound range. Shallow diving lures are catching the line sides outside of Cottonwood

Seasonal Trout Plants Have Begun

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
NDOW has begun its seasonal trout plants at each of the urban ponds. Anglers have been catching their 3-fish limit. Trout are taking PowerBait and nightcrawlers but will also hit a combo meal made from a piece of nightcrawler and a mini marshmallow. When choosing a hook remember that you can catch big fish on small hooks (size 10 or 12), but it’s hard to

Lake Mead Fishing Report

Anglers continue to catch striped bass throughout the lake using light colored crankbaits and shad colored jigs. In the coves, striped bass and catfish are biting on anchovies close to shore. Smallmouth bass are taking shad imitations in the area of Lovers Cove and Government Wash. Expect fishing action to slow down with the arrival of nighttime temperatures close to freezing.

Truckee River Fishing Report-11-24-19

by MATT KOLES
Looks like we’re gonna have a winter after all. Big changes in the weather. We went from t’shirts to jackets in one day, and looking like it’s staying that way through December. Good. Decent snow this week. Too early to tell after next week, but if you’re looking at the weather models, or model riding, looking real good for Tahoe all of December. So, what’s that mean
