Colorado River Fishing Report

Striped bass action has slowed with the arrival of cooler temperatures, but some anglers are still having luck bringing in 4- to 7-pound stripers from Casino Row to Big Bend State Recreation Area. Shore anglers have been bringing in limits rainbow trout with PowerBait, nightcrawlers and a variety of spinners.

Lake Mohave/ Willow Beach Fishing Report

Catfish are hitting anchovies close to shore. The smallmouth bass bite is best in the coves using swimbaits and shad imitation crankbaits. Striped bass are most active outside of Willow Beach and on the south end of the reservoir near the dam. Anchovies are working well for stripers in the 1- to 3-pound range. NDOW has begun its seasonal trout plants at each of the urban ponds. Anglers have been catching their 3-fish limit. Trout are taking PowerBait and nightcrawlers but will also hit a combo meal made from a piece of nightcrawler and a mini marshmallow. Anglers continue to catch striped bass throughout the lake using light colored crankbaits and shad colored jigs. In the coves, striped bass and catfish are biting on anchovies close to shore. Smallmouth bass are taking shad imitations in the area of Lovers Cove and Government Wash. Expect fishing action to slow down with the arrival of nighttime temperatures close to freezing.

Thin Ice on Shoreline in The Mornings

With temperatures dropping, expect thin ice along the shorelines in the morning. The ice will usually thaw with afternoon sun. Mid-week rain showers are expected to make way for sunny skies over the weekend. Use caution when venturing around the reservoirs and roads during inclement weather.

Anglers are enjoying the benefits of weekly rainbow trout plants. Pink, green and yellow PowerBaits are producing the best action below Davis Dam, and small spinning lures are also catching the fish. The areas below Big Bend State Recreation Area and along Casino Row are providing good fishing for both trout and stripers. Stripers are hitting on anchovies off the bottom.

Seasonal trout plants have begun. The Nevada Department of Wildlife will stock rainbow trout again this week at Floyd Lamb, Sunset, and Veteran’s Memorial Park ponds. The action for stocked rainbows has been very good for those using bright-colored garlic PowerBait and night crawler pieces. Anglers are catching bass and catfish at Floyd Lamb and Sunset parks on warm afternoons.

The striper bite is best at sunrise when they are feeding on shad. Imitation shad and minnow swimbaits work well during this time, though live shad are generally the most productive bait. The Willow Beach Hatchery just did a trout plant at Rotary Park and I have been hearing of some great fish catches.
