The area south of the Lahontan Fish hatchery has produced some rainbows. Anglers have been drifting salmon eggs with a split shot.

The NDOW planted the river recently with rainbow trout. Fishing has been good to fair depending on your location. I personally like to fish the Wilson Canyon area.

Morning Fishing From Shore Has Been Productive

Morning fishing from shore has been fairly productive with indicators and balanced leeches and retrieving wooly buggers and booby flies. After the morning rush, fishing from shore cools off considerably. Best Action Has Been in The Morning or Late Afternoon

The best action has been found in the morning hours and late afternoon when the winds are calmest. Afternoon winds have made fishing difficult during that time of day. Trout have been taking rainbow PowerBait, night crawlers, and an assortment of ¼- to ½-ounce spinning lures and spoons. Water levels are holding steady and roads are in good condition.

Good Action For Rainbow & Tiger Trout

Both shoreline anglers and boaters have found good action for rainbow and tiger trout in the 10- to 12-inch range. The trout bite has been best through in the morning hours. Anglers are catching the fish with worms and PowerBait. Bass are still hitting baits but are doing so later in the day. Early morning temperatures have been dropping below the freezing mark.

Rainbow trout have been biting well for the few anglers working the lake. Pink, orange, and green PowerBait have been productive. So too have small spinners for those using lures. Fly-anglers are catching trout and bass with dark colored Woolly Buggers.

One-pound stripers are taking cut anchovies from boaters and shore anglers above Big Bend. Larger stripers seem to prefer swimbaits, or a white Bomber Long A fished a couple of feet down. Trout are biting through Casino Row, and anglers are hitting this area hard. Black bass are hitting on plastics along the shelves in coves.

Stocked rainbow trout are providing good fishing for anglers following weekly plants by the National Fish Hatchery. Striped bass can be caught with trout imitations. including both soft plastics and jointed swimbaits. Anglers have been catching fish between 5 and 20 pounds. One California angler reported that he caught a 28-pound striper recently on a homemade lure. Catfish are holding in coves below Cottonwood Basin

Fishing has been sluggish with fish feeding at night during the full moon. The action should pick up this next week. Hot dog pieces, night crawlers or stink baits will catch the fish. The last catfish plant of the 2019 season is slated for the end of October.

Cooler Mornings & Evenings

Anglers have been able to take advantage of cooler morning and evening temperatures to catch black bass, stripers, and catfish. Striped bass action has been good for shore anglers in the Las Vegas Bay area and boaters around the Boulder Islands. Anchovies, live shad, and jointed swimbaits are catching the fish.

Lake Mohave the striper action is holding steady in various spots. This being said you will have to move around a bit to find where they are. The coves in and around the power lines near the openings are proven hunting grounds. Near the dam along the points great spots. The stripers have been feeding on the shad so it might take a little encouragement

The striper bite here along the Colorado river below the Davis dam has slowed a bit and our trout stocking program will be up and running this week. The willow beach hatchery should be stocking soon if all goes according to plan I would look for trout stocking around this coming Tuesday as a guess . First Cutthroat Caught on Tahoe Since 1900's

Monday update: One of the first cutthroat was caught today since the 1900’s! #shutupandfish Over fishing of the Lahontan Cutthroat led to the ultimate demise of the population in the late 1800’s. Earlier this month the national fish hatchery complex released 5,000 Lahontan cutthroat trout back into their native waters.
