Nevada Fish Reports

The Truckee River flow has dropped since our last report but remains fishing well. The Reno gauge is about 350CFS. This is a typical drop for this time of year as the Water Master is adjusting for seasonal conditions and lower demands. The trout are still feeding in fast moving water. Drop shot techniques have been very effective to get your flies near the bottom quickly.

The flows on the Truckee have dropped around 100 CFS at the Farad gauge. As of today, this section of river is sitting at 550 CFS, which is just a bit above average for this time of year. While the water temps have dropped along the entire Truckee, we are still seeing warm water along Glenshire Drive in the late evenings. Down in the canyon, anglers can fish all day right now, with water temps peaking around 65 degrees by 5:00pm. We have noticed a decline in activity towards that late afternoon window, however, and the best fishing will still be in that morning

This week, our local angler Chris Williams landed a beautiful 14.98-pound striper measuring 36.5 inches in length. While slightly underweight for its size, it’s still an impressive catch! Chris was fishing from shore at Rotary Park using a swimbait to reel in this striper. Reports are coming in that larger stripers are making their way in, and a variety of lures have been producing solid results.

Back to having some nice cool weather on the Truckee River. High's not getting out of the 70's is pretty nice for July. Of course, the fishing has been pretty good.  Flows have been great all up and down the river. 625 cfs here in Hirschdale. If you could pick a perfect flow, that would probably be it.
