Brown Trout and Lake Trout Action Heating up on Tahoe

by ROBERT VARIK
We had a strong start to the season with some nice action on Brown Trout. On the maiden voyage, we landed an impressive 8-pound Brown Trout, followed shortly by a 9-pound Lake Trout. Plenty of above-average Lake Trout are being caught, along with a few solid Brown Trout showing up as well. Overall, the bite is looking promising for early season fishing on the lake. Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
When fishing during spring runoff, people often see the river as being too large and hard to fish. While it’s true that the river is larger, it also makes the fishable areas smaller. This means that the areas that fish can hold in are fewer and it makes it easier to know where they may be. This evens the playing field. Think about sections of

The fishing has picked up over the last couple weeks

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has picked up over the last couple weeks. Mainly from Zephyr Cove to Sand Harbor. A few other areas have been off the Tahoe shelf. Trolling J plugs or a dodger and a live minnow.  Raplas have also been productive from the Camp Rich area to Emerald bay. I recommend either the F11-F13 or a J11 rainbow or black and silver. Talking with

The lake has been fishing well midmorning to afternoons

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake has been fishing well midmorning to afternoons. Flashers and a worm or Rapalas have been most productive. Shore fishing has been slow to fair. Most anglers have been using powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers.

Windy conditions can have the fish stack up

by THE FLY SHOP
The lake continues to fish well and should be a good place to get a good chance at a large dinosaur trout. Windy conditions can have the fish stack up, keep your head on a swivel for the best locations to target the school. Indicator nymphing with Balanced Leeches and Chironomids are producing the most consistent right now, but stripping Popcorn Beetles, Midnight Cowboys, or

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
Yep, it's me—out on a river boat run, and this time, without a fish. This time of year, fishing can be hit or miss. Not everyone lands the fish they're targeting. Some days are slow, and others are great. The fish move around and will often circle back, so it’s all about finding that right spot. Backwaters are great areas where the stripers like to hang

The reservoir is ice free and nearly full

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is ice free and nearly full. Trout up to 18″ are being caught. The road has a few wet and rough spots, but 4×4 is not needed.

Fishing should be fair to good for trout, and will pick up when the spring stockings occur

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Harrison Pass is open. Fishing should be fair to good for trout, and will pick up when the spring stockings occur. Trout in the 15″ t0 20″ range are being caught in the collection ditch. Fly anglers are reporting success with dark-colored streamer patterns, as well as your favorite nymph pattern (pheasant tail, gold-ribbed hares ear, etc.). Small, flashy spinners are the go-to for spin

Ice is continuing to recede but the lake is not completely open yet

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Ice is continuing to recede but the lake is not completely open yet. The shorelines are soft and muddy. Do not attempt to access remaining ice during the thaw. The boat dock has not been put in yet. Spring fishing should be productive with trout in the 16″-22″ range. Bass fishing will be slow until warmer weather persists. Special regulations: March 1 – June 30 is catch

State Park staff has opened the main boat ramp for the season

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
State Park staff has opened the main boat ramp for the season. Water temperatures are sitting in the low 40s. Shoreline anglers are having the best luck with trout hitting orange PowerBait, or nymph, midge and leech patterns on a fly rod. Streamers are being hit hard off the dam. Below the dam, fly anglers are finding trout in the pools downstream of the spillway.

Water levels reached normal pool on 3/14/25

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
For the first time in nearly 6 years, Cave Lake is at capacity and spilling. Water levels reached normal pool on 3/14/25.  With recent storms, shoreline access will be muddy until the snow melts and everything begins to dry out.  Anglers can expect to catch hatchery-reared rainbow trout stocked into Cave Creek in June 2024 that ended up in Cave Lake as the water levels

Fishing is heating up. Spring is great time to be on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
I think Winter is officially over. Ended up with right around average snowfall for the season. Good news for the Truckee River, now, and into next Fall. Fishing is heating up. Spring is great time to be on the Truckee River.  Seeing skwala stones, some early caddis, blue wings, and waiting on the march browns. Nymph with the above. You may get lucky and get a good

Fish Are Biting!

by CAVE LAKE STATE PARK
Michael out slayin' the fish on this beautiful Sunday afternoon!     A new batch of trout will be arriving soon!

It’s been an interesting few weeks since our last report

by RENO FLY SHOP
It’s been an interesting few weeks since our last report. We hit a high of 76° mid last week followed by a cold front that dropped snow on the valley floor. This has water temps going up and down which can impact the consistency of fishing.  We are starting to see some signs of spawning behavior (I.e. shallow cruising fish, trout with fungus along their bodies)

Truckee River Fishing Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River also changed since our last report. The storm last weekend cooled wanter temps off significantly and seemingly had the fish move to slower water. We were finding them but mostly in slower edges and a bit deeper than last week. The trend has the water warming and we believe this will continue with warmer air temps. Looking forward at the weather forecast we

Pyramid Lake has benefited from the last few winters and the water conditions at the lake are great

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
The latest storm that passed through the area left a bunch of snow. Our late season storm track has finally put the Sierra snowpack over 100%. The weather is about to take a monster turn towards spring and some really warm weather is going to melt this snow pretty fast. The area streams will most likely be blown out for a bit now. Keep an

We are seeing a lot of fish school up in shallow water

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While we are seeing a lot of fish school up in shallow water and become mostly lock-jawed as they head into spawn, this week’s storm has turned the bite back on for a few short days. Conditions earlier this week were fantastic. We would bet dollars to doughnuts that the warm days expected early next week will slow this bite to a near crawl and

The Truckee continued to fish well through this last storm

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee continued to fish well through this last storm and we expect it to stay that way for the near future. This last late-season storm is great to see, helping bolster our late season snowpack and will only help the cause for those imminent hot mid-summer days. Once we see some consistently warm weather, the run off should be quick to follow and the

2nd Annual Save Comins Lake Pike-Out

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Attention Anglers! Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Save Comins Lake Pike-Out in Ely, NV! We are calling on anglers to volunteer to fish out as many Northern Pike from Comins Lake as we can.
