Nevada Fish Reports

NDOW planted about 5,000 rainbow trout in the reservoir the week of Feb. 9. Over the holiday weekend, anglers found good success catching both the stockers and holdover rainbows primarily with PowerBait. Orange was the color of choice and those using mixed color PowerBait did well as long as orange was one of the colors. A father and son caught and released approximately 60 fish

The long weekend saw an increase in fishing activity. Anglers found good action for rainbows using PowerBait with orange as part of the coloration.

The action for striped bass and rainbow trout in the area continues to be light. Trout can be found holed up around docks along Casino Row, Sunshine Peninsula or Rotary Park. Rooster Tails or night crawlers are working well. Working backwaters along the river has worked well for catfish and sunfish. Small jigs or night crawler pieces may entice the bluegill and redear sunfish. Anchovies

With unseasonably high air temperatures the water temps have slowly risen as well. As the shallows warm, anglers can expect a little more action as the fish turn on. Catfish have been the top fish as of late with the bite being good in most coves. Anchovies have been the top bait and one lucky angler reeled in a catfish weighing 7.26 pounds. Fishing action

Lorenzi Park has been fishing well for most anglers using small spinners or bait fishing with PowerBait. There have been no reports from the other ponds this past week. NDOW will continue to stock the ponds for the next few weeks, but trout stocking is temperature dependent and will stop once the water temps get too high to sustain the fish.

Anglers have had success catching striped bass in the area of Boulder Beach. Live shad are the top bait. If fishing from a boat, watch for drop-offs or underwater points as stripers can be found hanging in this area. Rangers report that anglers have found good action for rainbow trout. A few fishermen did well using a combination bait that includes a chunk of night crawler and a bit of rainbow PowerBait. The reservoir is currently ice free, and the campground is open with all facilities available.

The reservoir is completely ice free and rainbow trout are taking almost anything thrown at them by the few anglers who have been at the lake. The campground is open.

Following windy conditions early in the week, anglers can look forward to light winds and sunny skies this weekend. Striper action has been light with anglers finding success with anchovies. Reports have been light from the lake this past week. A few anglers out looking for largemouth bass have found success working the water north of Cottonwood Cove and toward the power line. According to the folks at Rusty's Riviera Marina, both the largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are in pre-spawn mode. Sunfish and catfish are hitting baits in the coves.

Stocked rainbow trout are keeping most folks happy at the urban ponds. The fish are averaging about nine inches in length. During a work project on the lower pond at Floyd Lamb Park, workers netted several largemouth bass, one weighing in moiré than four pounds. The fish were released into Tule (upper) pond.

Anglers are reporting an abundance of shad throughout the Vegas Wash area. They continue to be the most productive bait. Angel, at Laker Plaza, reports that six- to eight-inch swimbaits in white and chartreuse color variations have also been working well. The area around Echo Bay has been producing well with anglers having the most success for stripers at Stewart's Point and Buoy 18. They

Four 20 pound cutthroats were caught last weekend during the opening of the President's Day Derby, three were caught from the shore. The Nets, Sand Hole were two of the spots. Recent storms and rain have sent the river into pretty much flood stages as of Monday February 9th. Parts of the river are over 2000 CFS. We will take it! This will help the water situation for sure. It will also give the river a much needed flush and help move out some silt etc. It could be a few days before the river comes
