Recreational boating is taking over and fishing has taken a backseat. Lake is 50% of capacity and dropping. The few anglers getting out can get limits of trout trolling 20 feet deep with flashers/nightcrawlers. Shoreline anglers get a trout here and there. Power Bait (rainbow) work best. Rainbows & Brown Trout are biting at Eagle Valley Reservoir

Trout fishing has been consistent with rainbows and brown trout taking PowerBait, night crawlers and marshmallows. Anglers have reeled in many bass in the one- to three-pound range. Bass fishing at Echo Canyon Reservoir has been phenomenal

Bass fishing has been phenomenal, according to Ben Johnson, supervisor at the Spring Valley and Echo Canyon state parks. Imitation crawdads have been the best bait with various soft plastics and night crawlers also working well. Anglers have caught fish as large as three and four pounds. Allan Cole has reeled in several double-digit stripers recently while using his signature A.C. Plug fatty and minnow. Slide Swimmer and Rago swimbaits have also produced striped bass over ten pounds. Scrappy little bluegill are still providing anglers with good action. Work shaded areas using small flies, jigs or mealworms. Catfish have been hitting on shrimp and stink baits. Hot dog slices are also a good bait choice. The next NDOW catfish plant will take place in mid-August.

We had a few clients on the ranch this week that had a great time, as on the Cali side of the river the nymphing was the best with the same types of patterns as listed in the East Walker report. Lots of nice fish in the 16 to 20 inch range were being caught as well.

NDOW Announces No Limit on Trout at Wildhorse
