Nevada Fish Reports

Free Fishing Day had the anglers working the water for largemouth bass, crappie and trout on this small reservoir. Daytime temperatures are a little warmer here than at Eagle Valley. Fish the cooler times of the day, early morning and late afternoon and evening. Fish the structure for bass and crappies. Try rainbow PowerBait or worms for trout and spinners or plastic baits for bass.

Anglers were out in low numbers last weekend and action continues to be slow. Anglers have found some success for catfish and stripers, though there is no word of anything very big. No report for Willow Beach.

Winds have held anglers at bay for much of the past week and have made fishing difficult. Some striper fishermen have found top-water action, but most of the fish caught have been taken on bait. Stripers have been seen chasing shad to the surface. The key is a willingness to work for the fish; passive anglers will find the going slow. Fishermen have been finding

Gene St. Denis: Fishing has been good early in the mornings. I've been fishing 50-200 feet deep at Ski Run Shelf. Trolling with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and minnows. Bouncing off the bottom in a serpentine pattern. Our biggest Mack was 12-pounds.

Andy at the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks at 358-6113: Is good for everyone: Fly fishermen, shore fishermen, spincasters, trollers and jiggers, just about everywhere.

George and Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: It is very windy today (Monday). Fishing has been fair for boats but the shore fishing has really died off except for the float tubers who are getting further out in the water. Nothing exceptional is being caught, the biggest have been 7-8 pounds.

Chris and Jeri Grellman of Sparks of Hog Charters (358-5199): Jeri reported: Chris helped save a friend's boat that was sinking on Saturday. Everything turned out OK. He caught a total of 6 Cutthroat that were all in the slot limit. Overall, it was a slow day of trolling.

Andy at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store: Nothing is happening even though everything (water temp, clarity, flow, etc.) is perfect, right now.

Todd Sodaro and Chad Machado of the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229): Fishing was spectacular over the weekend. Sunday, Brett Charbenneau of Incline Village caught a 5.5 pound rainbow on a Panther/Martin lure, and Jason Dinkel of Stockton caught a 17-inch brown on a Yozuri lure. ?Į

Dave Kirby: There are lots of fish, right now, and not a lot of fishermen. I saw plenty of fish in the holes on Saturday afternoon. There will be a plant of big fish on Wednesday, June 6, by Alpine County. Those large rainbows come from that private hatchery up by Susanville.

Elmer Bull reported: Bass fishing was still pretty good last week on plastic or rubber worms. The trout fishing has tailed off pretty bad.

Last Thursday, Don Hettrick of Carson City, Rich Bachle of Fernley and I spent the morning fishing at Lahontan Reservoir in "Don H's" boat. And, as is typically the case whenever the three of us fish together, it is a memorable experience. Last week was no exception. Don Hettrick and Don Quilici of Carson City plus Rich Bachle of Fernley trolled last Thursday morning. They caught and released more than 100 White Bass, 4 Sacramento Perch, 1 Walleye and 1 Carp. They were using flasher blades with various lures that resembled small fish.

Dennis Dunn, Mark, Rocket and Scott at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: The perch are hitting like crazy. Tons of perch are being caught. The trout fishing is decent and the Channel Catfish is starting to pick up. Fishing for trout is better from a boat than from shore.

Flows are fluctuating between 400 and 500 cfs. Fluctuations are vey typical for this time of year due to run-off. As the peaks and the valleys of the fluctuations start to get closer together the fishing really takes off. The East Carson is already fishing pretty good and will only get better over the next couple of months. Look for Grey Drakes and March
