Nevada Fish Reports

Our local angler, Mike Merrit, is featured with a nice catch of recently planted rainbow trout. He was fishing from shore at Rotary Park using power bait to land his limit of five trout. Perfect frigging weather. Springs the best. Usually it don’t stop snowing until June, but this years been pretty nice. Flows are slowly coming down. Around 1000 cfs here in Hirschdale, and 1,300 cfs down lower. Not that big really. Clarity is coming back in shape too. Was never really bad the last few weeks, but much clearer now. My best advise is to lay off the worms

The ranch is still fishing very well just like the Cali side of the river, of course the ranch section doesn’t get nearly as crowded as the rest of the water down there so if you want to have a little bit of river without the crowds give us a call and see about a reservation! 

Nymph fishing and streamer fishing will be your best bet. Nymphs in brighter colors have worked in the off color water. Squirmy Worms and Firestarters have been some of the most purchased patterns over the last few weeks. Anglers are finding success with these in certain spots. Thanks to our recent trout stocking, anglers are having great luck catching rainbow trout. Local angler Jonathan Longtime landed his limit at Rotary Park, fishing from shore using plastic trout worms. Nice catch! I'm also receiving reports of striper activity in the Community Park area and near the dam. Anglers are having the best luck with anchovies, while lures are producing some of the larger fish. A

The kids carp derby is back! Join us at the Churchill County Day Use Area at Lahontan Reservoir on Saturday June 1st from 8-11am. Registration opens at 7am and awards will follow the fishing at 11. Prizes awarded for the three largest fish caught in each of the three age categories. There will also be one special award for the angler that catches the most

The ranch is pretty much in the same boat as the Cali side of the river, the higher flows have made it a bit more difficult but there are still good fish being caught. Much of the same patterns that are working on the Cali side are also working on the Nevada side as well as the ranch.    

With the tributaries of the river pumping in a lot of water as it makes it way downstream, the Truckee changes a lot between the various sections. With the recent drop in flows out of Lake Tahoe the upper section of the Truckee from Tahoe City to River Ranch is once again running low and it probably won’t be until you hit the area around

Water Conditions With low flows coming from Lake Tahoe, the Upper Truckee River water levels are low, but the fishing is still good in some deeper sections. Heading towards Truckee, the flows pick up with all of the creeks and runoff feeding into the river. Even with the runoff we are seeing, clarity is still good. The lake level has started to come down a few feet over the last week or two. Fishing has been good for early morning anglers trolling flashers followed by a worm or a #1 needlefish lure. Comins Lake is near capacity with water temperatures sitting in the low to mid 50s.  Fishing has significantly improved compared to last year. Our striper bite is holding well along the shores of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam.
