Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
The striper bite is picking up along the shores of the Colorado River. Reports from Lake Mohave indicate that anchovies are effective for bringing stripers to the boat, while largemouth bass are guarding fry or late bloomers on their nests. Carp are stirring up silt on the bottom, causing some water cloudiness, and are still jumping during spawn. Local angler Dale Scott had success fishing from

Pretty darn good Spring fly fishing on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
If you’re after numbers, wait until Summer, actually go fish the Lower Sac, but if you like big fish, this is the time. Nice Spring weather too. Sunshine and big puffy Simpson clouds. We got right around 1000 cfs here in Hirschdale. Actually it’s around 1000k all up and down the river. So yeah, somewhat bigger flows. Clarity is actually very good for the higher flows. Think

The ranch is still fishing very well

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The ranch is still fishing very well with lots of fish being caught in the 16 to 20 inch range as well as a few over the 20” mark. They’re still taking streamers and nymphs just like the California side of the river. With the higher flows it is a little more difficult to get around but it’s still very doable. Give is a call

Continue to fish the soft water, rifles and seams found along the banks

by TROUT CREEK FLIES STAFF
The flow charts for the river seem to continue along with a mostly upward trajectory, except for Thursday of this week, which brought the CFS at Farad down from 1,550 to 1,200. This will be short lived, and with the warm days ahead we should see flows continue to trend upwards in the immediate future. Continue to fish the soft water, rifles and seams found

Trout action has been very good

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Trout action has been very good with most rainbows averaging between 8 and 12 inches. There have been a few 18-inch rainbows taking baits as well. Olive Woolly Buggers and Snow Cones were the favorite fly patterns of the weekend. Despite rainy conditions, anglers found good action along the shore.  Boaters are doing well while trolling with spinners along drop offs. The bass bite is

Trout have been hitting well off the dam and along the south side

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Trout have been hitting well off the dam and along the south side of the reservoir. Black and white Snow Cones and olive Woolly Buggers have been fooling rainbow trout. Night crawlers fished below a water bobber seem to work throughout the day as winds pick up. The crappie and bass bites will start to pick up as water temperatures continue to rise.

Rainbow trout activity is reportedly best at sunset and during the early morning

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Rainbow trout activity is reportedly best at sunset and during the early morning hours at Willow Beach. Rooster Tails and spoons are catching trout and stripers alike. Anglers are reeling in catfish on anchovies thrown from the fishing pier at Willow Beach and at Katherine Landing. Cottonwood Basin is a hotspot for black bass. Craws, grubs and worms fished from kayaks or boats are fooling

Warm water temperatures have had catfish and bluegill are moving around

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Warm water temperatures have had catfish and bluegill moving around more throughout the day. Anglers are finding catfish and bluegill to be interested in stink baits and cut hot dogs. Some sunfish may be less interested in eating if they are actively spawning.

Anglers are finding black bass in 10 to 20 feet of water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Anglers are finding black bass in 10 to 20 feet of water. The fish are hitting soft plastics, jerkbaits and Rat-L-Traps. Catfish are taking cut anchovies and shrimp from Las Vegas Bay to the water intake. Crappie action is starting to peak for boaters in the Overton Arm. Live or plastic minnows and jigs seem to be the most productive bait options.

Striped bass are becoming more active below Davis Dam

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Striped bass are becoming more active below Davis Dam. Anglers have caught fish as large as 5 pounds from the shoreline as well as boats. Anchovies are the most reliable bait, but anglers are also reporting success with a variety of swimbaits. Rainbow trout are hanging out in shaded pools near currents. The fish are leaving their hiding spots to take flashy spinnerbaits or combinations

Riviera Marina Fishing Report

by RUSTY
Our local angler, Dawn Leclerc, landed 4 rainbow trout from our recent stocking. These fish are brought in from the hatchery in Colorado. The Willow Beach Hatchery imports rainbow trout from October till March. Our city brings in these fish to help with the caddis fly issue. This time of year, we are experiencing a bloom of these pests, but they are good eating and

Toplining for large rainbow and brown trout has also been productive in shallower water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Shore anglers are using smaller spinners for planted trout and larger spoons diving plugs for larger rainbows and browns. Toplining for large rainbow and brown trout has also been productive in shallower water (less than 50 feet in depth) but will start to change as we summer set in finally. Fishing has been productive all day but will likely shift to early and late with

Lots of good fish up to around 22” or so

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The ranch is fishing very similar to the Rosachi section, lots of good fish up to around 22” or so, mostly on streamers and nymphs. As with the Rosachi the higher flows make it necessary to increase your weight and lengthen your indicators. I would expect the flows on the EW not to come down too much now that the weather is getting warmer but

The East has been bumped up to about 212 cfs now

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The East Walker on the California side of the state line is closed until April 27. 2024. The Nevada side of the river is open through the Winter.   The East has been bumped up to about 212 cfs now, it’s still fishing pretty well but it is a bit more difficult than when it was at a lower flow. You’ll have to add some additional weight

Pyramid Lake Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake has seen a bit of an increase in activity this week, however with all the other great options to be had this time of year, we wouldn’t say that this is our first choice of places to fish right now. The water temps have risen a bit and some of the post spawn fish are starting to feed with a bit more regularity,

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While it was unfortunate to see the water along 89 South remain so low last year, even after the second biggest recorded snowpack in history, the positive of the new management style of Lake Tahoe’s water levels is that the lake is already full this spring. We should see good flows along the upper river for the entire spring and hopefully throughout a good portion

The spawn is in full swing, but should be ending soon

by RENO FLY SHOP
Pyramid Lake by Mike Anderson The spawn is in full swing, but should be ending soon. The surface temps have increased quite a bit from our last report. This has accelerated the spawn and will get us back to good fishing soon. The bite has actually picked up some with the increased temperature, and should continue to do so until the surface temps get above 65+ degrees. Both

Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been good over the last few weeks

by RENO FLY SHOP
Truckee River by Aden Breckner Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been good over the last few weeks. Looking forward, flows are expected to increase on a daily basis as we enter spring runoff. Flows at the Reno gauge are just above 1,000 cfs as of this writing. With increasing flows, we will turn towards high water tactics.  Fish get pushed up near the bank this time

Trolling has been good to very good on the north

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has fluctuated a foot or two. The fishing has still been fair from shore for anglers using powerbait or mini nightcrawlers. Trolling has been good to very good on the north and north west side with Needlefish or Rapalas. Flashers and worms have also been productive for catchable rainbows. Boaters beware of floating debris on the lake. The Douglas County campground is
