Angler Report: Topaz Lake

by FISH REPORTS STAFF
Sam checked in with us after his trip out to Topaz Lake: I want to thank Doug for his helpful reports that really made a difference for us. My fishing trip to Topaz was fantastic, and I'll definitely be going back. We used F5 Rapalas while trolling the west side bank and caught 8 rainbow trout, all around 10 to 13 inches long. Sadly, we lost

We had a few clients on the ranch this week

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We had a few clients on the ranch this week unfortunately it was when the flows were at the 161 rate, it was a little tough on them but they were still able to get into a reasonable amount of fish. Nymphing still seemed to be the best down there as on the Rosachi.

The flows on the EW have been fluctuating a bit the past 2 weeks

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The East Walker on the California side of the state line is closed until April 27. 2024. The Nevada side of the river is open through the Winter.  The flows on the EW have been fluctuating a bit the past 2 weeks, which is to be expected. It was up at 161 cfs for a few days, then back down to 117 or so and now

by RENO FLY SHOP
Your OtW report from Pyramid Lake. Fishing this week has been tough. Colder weather last week has left the fish sluggish and waiting for a warm up coming this weekend. Flies We Suggest: Pyramid Lake Beetle, Booby, Pyramid Lake Bugger, Holo

The lake saw a few good days this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake saw a few good days this week as the last small front pushed through the area. Things appear to be slowly improving out here and we are feeling hopeful with the warmer weather expected this week. It may not make for great fishing in the immediate future, but will surely help bring the surface temperatures up, encouraging the fish to move into shallow

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We love the Truckee in the spring, as the fish really begin to wake up from the short and cold winter days. They often appear fat and happy, they fight hard, and their colors are incredible. The next few weeks will be the sweet spot for anglers looking to fish the river hard. We have a great combination of warming water temps, longer and warmer

March Might Have Been Cold, But The Fish Are Hot!

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
One thing is consistent at Pyramid Lake, you have to put in the work to reap any reward. Colder water temps have stalled the traditional heavy March bite into one that is a bit slower, however we are running into more quality than quality out here. We do have much higher lake levels as well, so that changes the shore dynamic everyone has been rather

by WILLOW BEACH NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY
Good morning from Willow Beach! Today our staff stocked around 1,200 rainbow trout at the Willow Beach Marina fishing pier. Happy fishing! #rainbowtrout #RecreationalFishing #hatchthefun #USFWS

Lake Tahoe Fishing Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Shore anglers are using smaller spinners for planted trout and larger spoons diving plugs for larger rainbows and browns. Toplining for large rainbow and brown trout has also been productive in shallower water (less than 50 feet in depth) but will start to change as we summer set in finally. Fishing has been productive all day but will likely shift to early and late with

Look for stocking to begin again this spring

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Fishing will slow considerably at Washoe and Little Washoe with the winter and ice. Look for stocking to begin again this spring.

Things are firing up for a good Spring on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
We got lots of snow, sure you’ve heard, and now it’s all gotta melt. High’s could get into the 60’s this weekend in Truckee. Yahoooo! Look for the river to come up. My favorite time to fish is Spring on the Truckee RIver. The bigger the water, the better. People always ask, what’s your favorite time to fish the river Gill? Right now until about

Storms this past week have really put the LCT on the bite

by RENO FLY SHOP
Pyramid Lake– composed by RFS Guide Mike Anderson Storms this past week have really put the LCT on the bite. Larger fish have been caught in 8-11 feet on the indicator primarily with midges. The balanced leech bite has been waning recently but I would not count it out just yet. We have a week left of unsettled weather before we hit a high pressure system that

Bug life has changed a bit with the addition of our early spring hatch of Skwala stoneflies!

by RENO FLY SHOP
Truckee River– composed by RFS Guide Aden Breckner The Truckee River has experienced significant changes in flow, clarity, and water temperature over the last few weeks. Luckily these changes have really turned on the fishing throughout the system. Fish activity has increased quite a bit as compared to only a few weeks ago.  Bug life has changed a bit with the addition of our early spring hatch

Pyramid Lake FIshing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Much to our chagrin, Pyramid Lake didn’t exactly get red hot this week as the storm pushed though, but it was still fishing better than the prior week’s when sunny, high-pressure days were present. We suspect that fishing will improve slowly, but steadily over the next few weeks, as we see the water temps rise along with the longer days of spring, initiating the cutthroat’s

The Truckee River is currently in great shape

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee River is currently in great shape after last week’s weather and is only about 50 CFS higher than it was pre-storm. This, in-and-of-itself, will do little to change the fishing. But the drop in water temps it brought with it will mix things up a bit compared to the sunny “false spring” conditions of last week. With the warmer days ahead, we should

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

The South Lake has less than 3 inches of ice and is unsafe

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The county road going out is muddy and expected to stay that way with the warm temperatures.  Harrison Pass remains closed. The South Lake has less than 3 inches of ice and is unsafe, which applies to all ice at the Refuge.

As of 03/06/24, officials at the State Park measured 10 inches of ice with up to 2 feet of snow and slush on top

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
As of 03/06/24, officials at the State Park measured 10″ of ice with up to 2′ of snow and slush on top. The snow and slush can be difficult to walk through, especially as the day warms up.Ice thickness will vary across the lake, so be sure to sample your fishing area for yourself. For a trout bite, try worms, jigs or PowerBait a few

The boat ramp is officially open and the dock is in the water

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The boat ramp is officially open and the dock is in the water. Shoreline anglers are having luck fishing on the southwest side of the lake, catching rainbow trout in the 15″-18” range, with a few brown trout in the mix. A worm 5′ under a bobber is the go-to for spin anglers, while fly anglers continue to have success with leech patterns.

16.16 lb. Striped Bass

by RUSTY
Great river news this week! Our local angler, Gary Regan, came in to show us his catch. Gary's fish weighed in at 16.16 pounds and was 35 and 1/4 inches. He was fishing from his boat with his buddies Max and Belle. His companions quickly lent a hand, or paw, to help with the net and get this nice-sized striper on board. It was landed
