Nevada Fish Reports

Rolling through Winter on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
No snow yet. I think everyone’s wondering when Winter will start. It’s been cold, but lack of precip gets everyone a little on edge. I don’t think anyone wants a repeat of last year, but we do need a snowpack. Flows are darn good though. Fishing is hit and miss like it usually is in Winter. Warmer overcast days are best, but there’s usually a timeframe,

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Fishing on the lake has slowed a bit this week, but the storm that pushed through yesterday should hopefully help the cause, at least for the short term. December can typically be considered a hit-or-miss month by the avid Pyramid angler. The fish will be in close feeding aggressively one day and nonexistent the next. However, one thing we do enjoy about Pyramid in December

These small storms over the last week have done little to change conditions on the Truckee

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
These small storms over the last week have done little to change conditions on the Truckee in regards to water flows and temps. Touching upon my opening paragraph from this weeks report, one thing that I have learned in my years of trout fishing is these fish like consistency, so we expect fishing to remain fair, especially as the air temps rise early next week.

The lake level is still up and the water is mostly clear

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level is still up and the water is mostly clear. I fished this week for a few hours and ran into a little green slime on the North end. Nothing to mess up your line or get stuck in your prop.  I fished from 9am to about 130pm. I boated 9 catchable rainbows and kept one in the 3 lb range. Most of

If the weather is halfway decent it’s a good time of year to get out there!

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
We haven’t had anyone on the ranch lately but it should be fishing well with mostly the same patterns as on the Rosachi section. If the weather is halfway decent it’s a good time of year to get out there!

The Nevada side of the river is open through the Winter

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The East Walker on the California side of the state line is closed until April 27. 2024. The Nevada side of the river is open through the Winter. We’ve had a few reports from the Rosachi section in Nevada and the fishing has been pretty good, mostly with small midge patterns. The flow is at about 20 cfs which is normal for the Winter but

Winter is here and the river is fishing well

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Winter is here and the river is fishing well. You can really tell when winter fishing is in full swing when we get a lot of reports of white fish being caught. It seems they almost disappear during the summertime, but reappear during winter. They are just a blast to catch and are a true native species to the Truckee. Flows have remained steady and

19.12 lb. Striper

by RUSTY
With a welcome respite from the wind, our anglers are enjoying some success in landing striped bass. Nine-year-old local angler Maddelyn Archer, fishing in the area with anchovies, landed a impressive-sized striper with the assistance of her dad, Joshua Verkamp. The striper weighed in at 19.12 pounds and measured 37 and 1/2 inches in length. Given the current conditions at Rotary Park and the lower water

Flows are big for this time of year

by MATT KOLES
Bit warmer, and feeling much more like El Niño on the Truckee River We got out of the early morning teens, East winds stopped blowing, and kinda mild rainy’ish type weather. Good for Winter fly fishing on the Truckee River. Flows are big for this time of year. About 450 cfs here in Hirschdale, and around 550 cfs out East in Nevada on the lower river. Great

Recent warmer weather and winds have broken up most of the ice that was forming

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The dock has been removed from the water for the season at Wildhorse State Recreation Area. Recent warmer weather and winds have broken up most of the ice that was forming. Anglers are having success catching trout from shore or from a boat, with fish over 18 inches and 2-3 pounds on average. Anglers wishing to target trout in these conditions should focus on using

The reservoir is seeing some ice formation along the shallow portions of the shoreline

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
The reservoir is seeing some ice formation along the shallow portions of the shoreline, near the inflow of the S. Fork, and between Jetski Beach and Fisherman’s Point. This will likley change with warmer temperatures forecasted for most of the week. The boat dock has been pulled, however, the ramps remain open for now. Fishing has picked up with cooler weather the last few weeks, with

Bobber fishing out fished the strip bite again this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While fishing on the Truckee slows as the temp’s plummet, Pyramid Lake is seeing the opposite effect and the colder days have caused the bite to really pick up. These stormy, overcast days will keep fish in close to the drop offs all day, keeping rods bent with more consistency. Bobber fishing out fished the strip bite again this week, especially around mid-day. Low light

Flows remain stable on the Truckee

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While flows remain stable on the Truckee, the water temps have dropped this week, pushing fish into slow runs. The trout will be a bit less willing to move on your flies this week, and you will need to really bump them in the nose to get some love. This is a great time to begin fishing a high protein meal such as a worm

Shore Bite is On!

by BEARFISH ALLIANCE STAFF
Been a little while since we have thrown up a fish report, but if you need to keep up on regular reports go on over to www.pyramidflyco.com to keep current. Bite has been steady from the shoreline, and you will find the fish prowling anywhere from 8ft and down....you might even find a few as short as six feet, but those have generally been Cutties

December Brings The Cold, Our Team Brings The Heat

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Well, it’s easy to exaggerate when it comes to fishing. I mean, that is the everlasting stigma  that has been attached to all fisherman types by society. Whereas this may be true for most of the fishing world, here at Pyramid Fly Co. there is no exaggeration when it comes to what we put on the table. We fish for the largest cutthroat trout in

A Wave of Emotion

by ROBYN GERSTENSLAGER
Banner day for one biologist, population of Lahontan cutthroat trout provides hope, but more ‘tenacity’ needed to recover species Even over a year later, tears well up in his eyes when he talks about it. The “wave of emotion,” as he describes it, is understandable given that the moment was 15 years in the making. “Even last summer when I took my son and his friend

Cold Creek Reservoir is still at 85 percent of capacity and is 50 percent ice covered

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Cold Creek Reservoir is still at 85% of capacity and is 50% ice covered.  The ice is thin and should be considered unsafe. Angers can expect to catch 8-to-10-inch rainbow trout and tiger trout.  With cooler water temperatures, largemouth bass catch rates have begun to slow down.  Although harvest is still allowed, anglers are encouraged to catch and release bass caught until their population is

Comins Lake is ice covered, with ice ranging from 3.5 to 4 inches in areas sampled

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Comins Lake is ice covered, with ice ranging from 3.5 to 4 inches in areas sampled. Since this is the first fishable ice we have had, anglers are encouraged to have safety equipment while ice fishing. NDOW recommends to stay off ice measuring less than 4 inches. Prior to ice up, surveys showed rainbow trout ranging 16-to-24-inches and upwards of 5 pounds.  Anglers should do
