Current Water Conditions

Flows are measuring 248 CFS out of Tahoe City, 270 CFS through town of Truckee, 322 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 775 CFS near Farad. Water temperatures are starting to increase with the warmer weather pattern the area is seeing. Because of that, early mornings and evenings are the best chances to get the most bites. Water clarity is great. Wading conditions are good from Tahoe City to the Stateline, but be cautious of footing in the faster water near Farad.

Water Temperatures

Water temperatures are currently steady in the low to mid 50s°F and can reach the high 50s°F by mid-afternoon depending on the day.

Hatches

Anglers can expect a few different hatches at different parts of the day. At dusk, yellow sallies are making an appearance. Pale Morning Duns are hatching mid-day and green drakes are prevalent in the evening. Caddis are also hatching throughout the day into the evening.

Effective Tactics

Anglers are nymphing in the mornings until fish start to rise, then switching over to dry flys, or drydropper setups. For dries or drydropper setups, use yellow sallies in the morning, pale morning duns in the afternoon, and caddis or green drakes in the evening. For anglers nymphing, use longer leaders and a 10 foot 4 weight rod to get down in the faster runs. Focus on upstream drifts for a more natural presentation. Fishing deep pockets behind boulders and structures can produce more bites. With the appearance of warmer temperatures and a ton of pine pollen still showing, ants are still on the menu for the trout.

Catch Report

Anglers can have success from Tahoe City to the Nevada state line, but the bite is best from the Glenshire area through the canyon.
