Very healthy wild trout!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The health of the wild trout in the Truckee River is about as good as we’ve ever seen thanks mostly to a series of good water years. This doesn’t mean that fishing on the Truckee will be easy, because it never is. It does mean that the quality and numbers are there and when we combine that with the excellent conditions on the river right

Current Water Conditions Flows measuring 250 CFS out of Tahoe City, 278 CFS through town of Truckee, 341 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 693 CFS near Farad. Conditions have changed quickly

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The conditions have changed quickly here on the Truckee as the releases out of the reservoirs taper off and we see flows settle into their average range. In Glenshire, we are looking at 375 CFS this week, which is near perfect for this section of river, especially as water temps rise and the fish nose up into pocket water, of which there is an abundance

Summer is here on the Truckee!

by MATT KOLES
Summer is here on the Truckee River.  Flows have come down to just around normal. Around 650 cfs, here in Hirschdale. About the same all the way down river, and lower some up river. Lots of miles of Truckee River to fish right now. California, Nevada pick your poison.  This is when you look for middle slots, chutes, seams, etc. Trouts will push into the middle of

The bite is beginning to improve

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Pyramid Lake is currently full, and the boat launch remains open. As fish wrap up their spawning cycle, the bite is beginning to improve with warming weather conditions. Most anglers are finding the best success from float tubes, kayaks, or boats while fishing depths between 30 and 50 feet. Productive offerings have included Pyramid-style jigs, Sierra Spoons, midges, balanced leeches, and various hookup baits.

Fish are spread throughout the system

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS

Wading conditions are good from Tahoe City to the Stateline, but be

Good time of year to fish it all!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee was affected very little by this week’s weather in terms of increased flows. In fact, the flows out of Boca Reservoir dropped this week, bringing the Farad gauge down from 1,200 CFS, to around 800. The main effect of the storm was the decrease in water temps, cooling back down into the mid-40’s for a short period. Expect fish to be holding in

Solid fishing all up and down the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Solid fishing all up and down the Truckee River.  Good flows just about everywhere on the river. Big still below Boca and down into Reno. Like, you may have a hard time wading at these flows. Perfect above Boca and towards Tahoe City.  Couple things first..You are not seeing Green Drakes yet. You are seeing March Browns. You'll see Drakes right around Fathers Day.  Second..You will probably not

Seeing things warm back up!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
After yet another cold snap last week, we are seeing things warm back up to typical spring temps just in time for the weekend. The local creeks are slowly dropping as runoff from the mountains wanes, and the Truckee is slowly but steadily dropping upstream of the Boca confluence. Below this however, things are still running high due to releases from the Little Truckee. While

Anglers have been fishing shallow in the early mornings on the west shore

by DOUG BUSEY
Anglers have been fishing shallow in the early morning in about 30 ft of water on the west shore. They have been trolling fast with big Rapalas and picking up a few small mackinaws. As the sun gets a little higher, and after soaking the minnow trap, fish a little deeper in 150 to 175 ft of water with a jig and a live minnow. Talking with

The lake is full and the fishing has been good to fair for small rainbows

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake is full and the fishing has been good to fair for small rainbows. Trollers have done well with Rapalas on the road side and the south end. But don't go too far south or you will find the willow forest that's under the water, "Snag City". Shore anglers have done fair with Powerbait or inflated nightcrawlers.

Fishing on the big river continues to improve daily

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Fishing on the big river continues to improve daily. With the presence of the summer bugs mixed with the waning of the more spring/winter bugs, one can fish a variety of methods and imitations right now and have a good shot at finding some fish. We have seen the ants really begin to kick into gear this week and for anyone looking to throw dry

Not many anglers have been getting out due to weather

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has been slow. Not many anglers have been getting out due to weather. I talked with my friend and fellow angler Jason. He told me that he could see the large fish on his graph as they came up to look at his presentation, but would then turn around and go back down. He did get a couple nice macs on his last
