Western Nevada Fish Reports

Marilyn’s Pond has been fishing well this summer but has also been busy. Fishing will remain good through fall with the abundance of water. Bait fisherman using salmon eggs and baby crawlers under bobbers are catching fish all day. Fly fisherman using small terrestrial dry flies have been catching fish on the surface early and late in the day.

Baily is fishing excellent and has been stocked several times this season.  The most consistent way of catching fish at Baily is salmon eggs under the bobber. Fly fisherman slowly retrieving peacock bodied nymphs will find fish just about any time. Trout fishing will continue to be good until water temperatures really climb. After that, anglers should find excellent green sunfish fishing through mid summer.

Flows have come down significantly over the last few weeks but still have a little ways to go before it’s prime. While flows are up, try larger wet flies and lures in bright colors during the brightest part of the day or black early and late. Plenty of hoppers line the shore but flows are a little high for fish to really be able to

Fishing has been good at Lahontan. Spin fisherman using jigs and spoons and fly fisherman using bright streamers are still consistently finding fish. The typical sandy beaches have been putting out fair numbers of small bass early and late in the day. Walleye fishing has been fair near the dam but should pick up as we start to cool down. I cant believe that I’m reporting that walleye fishing continues to be good, but has to slow down soon. Most walleye are ranging 17-23”. Night crawlers under a bobber or carp cut bait from shore.  Boats have been trolling rapalas or worm harnesses in close to shore. Its been an excellent year at Chimney, one for the record books. Fishing has been fair. The average size trout has jumped significantly over the last two seasons. Larger fish in the 17-22 inch range are starting to show up again more consistently. Insects have been prolific. Midge, mayflies, and damsels are hatching in strong numbers throughout the day. Large leech patterns on sinking lines can often save the day here in the mid-summer heat. Bilk has had a few tough years but should improve this fall with stocking. There are still a few bass in the lake, but the trout should be the main catch when temperatures come down a little. Warms are a great all-around bait off the bottom, or under a bobber for both the bass and trout.
