Western Nevada Fish Reports

Flows are excellent at the moment

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Flows are excellent at the moment. Plenty of hoppers line the shore and trout are eager to eat them. We’ve finally slipped into summer flows now that it’s fall. Bass fishing has been good this summer on the river between Carson and Dayton with the increase in water. Spin fisherman using small spinners in deeper runs and in the remaining pools.

Baily is fishing excellent and has been stocked several times this season

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Baily is fishing excellent and has been stocked several times this season.  The most consistent way of catching fish at Baily is salmon eggs under the bobber. Fly fisherman slowly retrieving peacock bodied nymphs will find fish just about any time. If the trout aren’t biting, go after the green sunfish. Trout fishing will pick up as temperatures allow for stocking to pick back up

Bilk has had a few tough years but should improve this fall with stocking

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bilk has had a few tough years but should improve this fall with stocking. There are still a few bass in the lake, but the trout should be the main catch when temperatures come down a little.

Chimney Dam Reservoir Report

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
After the best season in decades, Chimney still has been kicking out a few walleye ranging 17-23”. Night crawlers under a bobber or carp cut bait from shore. Diving plugs and jigs should be good until water temperatures really come down.

Cold water and great flows continue this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Cold water and great flows continue this week, the major change will be a storm front expected to move in on Friday. This storm front should provide excellent fishing conditions, as the drop in barometric pressure will inform the fish that fall is coming and it is time to pack it on. This mild storm system is expected to lay down moderate precipitation but will

With cooler nights happening recently, the Truckee River is fishing well

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Water Conditions With cooler nights happening recently, the Truckee River is fishing well. The water temps on the Truckee continue to trend downwards

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The water temps on the Truckee continue to trend downwards and the entire river from the confluence of Boca Reservoir all the way through Reno is fishing excellent. While the temps east of Sparks are currently good, the clarity is an issue for now, due to some of the lower tributaries dumping in some dirty water. If fishing in Nevada, we recommend focusing upstream of

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has been good for trollers on the west side in 20 to 40 ft of water. Most have been using perch rapalas, #2 green needlefish or Flashers and a half a crawler. Shore anglers had done fair on the California side with green or yellow powerbait. The lake level has come down a foot over the last couple weeks. But still 15 ft

Been saying that all Summer. Perfect flows, nice warm weather. Not that much Summer left now though. That’s ok, Fall will be here, and this Fall will be amazing. Trouts still eating a lot of crayfish, at least the bigger ones. You can always get some drinks on a smaller beaded nymph, but these big fish on the Truckee River are on the animal diet. Big

Cool Water Temperatures + Stable Flows = Happy Trout

by RENO FLY SHOP
The first part of August has provided some spectacular fly fishing on the Truckee River and other local trout fisheries. Reservoirs upstream have a significant amount of water-resulting in stable flow conditions. Additionally, air temperatures have not exceeded 100 degrees in the Reno-Tahoe area for over a week. This has led to lower water temperatures on the Truckee River and improved fishing conditions. We hope
