Mid-March Fishing Report

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
A little over halfway through March and it appears that winter is not willing to let go. Storm after storm has pounded the Sierras for the past few months. What is normally the most productive month of the season at the lake has been “weathering the storm”. Water temperatures are 8 degrees below normal, and it still looks and feels like January. The fishing despite

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The warmer days this week have made for some great days for hanging out on the water, but it has also made for some tough conditions for fishing out at Pyramid. Luckily, this shift in the weather starting Sunday will certainly help the bite pick back up and remain more consistent throughout the day. If you were planning on fishing out here at the pond this

The Truckee flows took a bit of a roller coaster ride this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee flows took a bit of a roller coaster ride this week, starting at under 500 CFS last week and peaking at 1,250 CFS a few days ago at the Boca confluence. The water is on a downward trajectory as of today and we should have some great fishing opportunities for the next two days. Yet with the next storm rolling in early next

A Fish in The Net is Worth Two Under The Bobber

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
With spring getting near and the weather systems pouring in has the fish schooling up more and more.  The water temperatures are cooler than normal and the fish are fired up even more so because of it.  It's good out and only getting better.   The name of the game these days has been midges, midges and more midges yet again.  If you don't like staring

Fly Fishing at Pyramid Lake has been fantastic through the first part of March

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fly Fishing at Pyramid Lake has been fantastic through the first part of March. Lahontan Cutthroat Trout are preparing for the spawn and feeding aggressively in the pre-spawn bite window. The fish are moving shallower with each passing day and will soon be cruising shoal lines up along the bank. As fish move into shallower water, it is crucial to adjust your approach to present

The Truckee River has fished well between the storms over the past few weeks

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has fished well between the storms over the past few weeks. The recent warm/wet storms have surged the water levels. Just before the water levels spiked the Blue Winged Olives (BWO’s) had finally made an appearance on the Truckee River and fish are taking notice on days without much wind. Baetis Cripples and Parachute Adams have taken fish off the surface. Prior

March has started off with a bang!

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
March has started off with a bang, as we’ve seen great number days this week with some large fish in the mix. This is THE month to be out here, so if you’ve been putting it off, now is when you want to clear some days in your schedule to spend here. Just this week I’ve found multiple fish in the 10 pound class and

The river will certainly become unfishable in the coming day

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We are seeing skyrocketing flow charts this morning and the river will certainly become unfishable in the coming days. This sucks for fishing this week, but is great for the overall health of the fishery, cleaning the river bottom of silt and debris, and hopefully creating better spawning habitat for the rainbows just a few weeks before they begin their spawn. I suppose unfishable is

The advertised peak of the season is here!

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
The advertised peak of the season is here! We have already had an amazing start to the spring with a lot of really fishy days due to the never ending chain of storms. This spring should continue to be really good into at least early May from shore. The water temperatures are still at their winter lows and the forecast is for some colder weather

As predicted, this first week of March has been great

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
As predicted, this first week of March has been great, and this is quickly shaping up to be THE month to be out here. Where and when you fish this lake should determine your presentation and what bugs you use. With fish being found in a variety of water types and depths, this is the time of year where you can pick your preferred method

The big storm last week raised the flows and lowered the temps on the river

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The big storm last week raised the flows and lowered the temps on the river, but how does this affect the fishing? Well, not as much as you’d think. The fish still have to eat, and the bugs still have to hatch. We even saw a few dry fly eats this week as the midges really seemed to kick into gear along the entire river,

Pyramid Lake has been fishing well this month

by DOUG RODRICKS
Pyramid Lake has been fishing well this month. Most of the fish are being caught in 5 to 10 feet of water. A combination of stripping steamers and indicator fish has been the most productive. Smaller midges fished under the indicator in the #16-18 range have been the best.

Wow, pretty insane snow totals here for the the Tahoe area and the Truckee Rive

by MATT KOLES
Wow, pretty insane snow totals here for the the Tahoe area and the Truckee River. I really haven’t done any fishing. It’s been cold, like really cold, and I’ve been dealing with snow removal. Hard to keep up with it all sometimes.  One of the bigger dumps we’ve had here in Hirschdale. We’re at about 5.500 feet and we easily got 4 feet in 2 days.

Pyramid Lake Conditions

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Ever watch that television series “Life Below Zero”? That’s exactly what it has been looking and feeling like out at Pyramid Lake. Maybe not quite below zero, but monstrous storms have churned up the lake from every direction and have the fish in a frenzy. We have seen it all; gale force winds, downdrafts, blowing snow, rain, big waves, and single track snowy roads on

With the storm system hanging around all week, Pyramid should continue to fish great

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Last weekend (President’s day weekend), we saw some beautiful weather with warm, sunny days and not a breath of wind. This was one of the busiest weekends on the lake this year with very few people catching more than a fish or two… Ouch! Fast forward to later in the week and this latest storm pushing through, the lake is right back to fishing great,

Be sure to fish deep and use ample weight this time of year

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
While access may be a bit tougher this week here in California due to this current storm, the lower river east of Sparks will not get hit as bad by this weather and should continue to fish well. This last week we saw river temps down here reach 45 degrees and the BWO’s have certainly responded with some great mid-day hatches. While we expect those

February is proving to be huge fish month once again

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
February is proving to be huge fish month once again as the massive cutthroat that roam Pyramid lake Nevada venture into the shallows to suck down midges and drop bobbers.  This past week we have had a few insane days with some incredible numbers and truly astonishing cutthroat hitting the net.  The growth on these fish is downright mind boggling and the power posed in

Another cold one out there, fishing however is red hot!

Another cold one out there. Fishing however is red Hot !! Great job guys, Thanks again

The lake has been fishing very consistently over the last few weeks

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake has been fishing very consistently over the last few weeks, and for those waiting to plan their trip to this destination fishery, the next 2 months will really be your best shots at great fishing. As for those that live a little closer and are just doing a day trip here, we have seen a window of good fishing in the afternoons, typically

Good hatches of Baetis beginning to show in the lower river east of Sparks

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With good hatches of Baetis beginning to show in the lower river east of Sparks, the Skwalas nearing emergence here in California, and the big aggressive fish looking more regularly at a well presented streamer, there are a lot of good ways to find fish on the river right now. While using nymphs under an indicator will still remain the most consistent day to day,

Winter is far from over here in the central Sierra’s

by MATT KOLES
Progressively getting a bit warmer on the Truckee River. Figure, it’s February and it’s gotta warm up at some point. Been a cold winter. Still shit tons of snow, good news for summer. Winter is far from over here in the central Sierra’s though. Bit lower and cold flow wise on the California side of things on the Truckee River. 275 cfs, Nevada side, out East through the

Good Fishing This Morning

by HANS MOXLEY
So great seeing you guys again. Pretty good fishing !! Pretty darn cold too. See you soon

The lake and the boat launch area is thawing nicely

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake and the boat launch area is thawing nicely. I am planning a trip up to see how the boat ramp is, and if it is safe to use. A few angler have been getting down to the shore on the north and south end. Be careful along the shore. In the morning the ground is solid and frozen. But it will soften and
