Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake level has gone down  about 5 feet since my last trip. The Douglas County ramp is open, but the docks are out of the water about 3 ft. For smaller boats it may be difficult to tie up. I fished with Tom Blotter from 7:30 to about 1pm last Sunday. We trolled with Rapalas and various spoons. The south end was a little

Wilson Canyon is now back open and repaved

by DOUG BUSEY
This area is located off of highway 208 just south of Yerington NV. and the good news is, Hwy 208 through Wilson Canyon is now back open and repaved. The recreation area is located on 211 East Walker Road in Yerington. They have tent camping, RV with and without hookups. Or you can call to reserve a cabin on the river. The Walker river is open to fishing year round

by DOUG BUSEY
Located off of US 95  in Yerington NV. They offer many ponds  to choose from to fish for trout, crappie, catfish and bass. And yes, a river runs through it. The Walker river is open to fishing year round. They have rustic dry camping in a few areas. But one of my favorite things to do is, Visit the hatchery and see all the varieties

The fish have really woken up this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fish have really woken up this week. Water temperatures have begun to finally trend upwards and exceed 45 degrees around Farad, and 48 degrees around Sparks, NV. These warmer temps with less fluctuation throughout the day has initiated the spawn down the hill, and this week we’ve seen quite a few spawning redds pop up. We encourage anglers to give the lower river a

Pyramid Lake has fished well through the first part of April

by RENO FLY SHOP
Pyramid Lake has fished well through the first part of April. The our extended winter has kept fish close to ledges and drop offs while feeding on a variety of food sources. We are finally starting to see fish cruise along shallow areas as they prepare to spawn. Typically, this migration into shallow water occurs in the early to middle parts of March. This year

Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been great over the last week

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fly fishing on the Truckee River has been great over the last week. Water clarity has been in the three to five foot range. Most days, the river has had a slight green tint which seems to improve fishing. With the warming trend over the last few days, water temperatures have crept up on a daily basis and are now peaking between 45 and 50

Pyramid has really switched on this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Like the river, Pyramid has really switched on this week as well, and the fish here are showing signs of being in pre-spawn. Beaches such as Pelican, Windless, North Nets located around the middle of the west shore have seem to been fishing very well as fish school up heavily around there “natal waters” I.E. where they are stocked. Windless and North Nets will be

Hinkson Slough has been fishing well

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Hinkson Slough has been fishing well. The best flies for retrieving seem to be the same dark buggers and leech patterns that always work. Midge larva under strike indicators will just about always work when trout are active. Bass fishing will start to pick up as soon as we get ta little warm weather.

The boat ramp at North Shore Marina has been lowered into the water

by LAHONTAN STATE RECREATION AREA
Attention all boaters! The boat ramp at North Shore Marina has been lowered into the water. Please review the Nevada Handbook of Boating Laws (https://assets.kalkomey.com/.../nevada-handbook-entire.pdf) to ensure you are abiding by all laws, rules, and regulations prior to launching your vessel at Lahontan. Additionally, for many boaters this is the time you are launching your vessel to test its readiness for the season. Please remember

Mixed bag of good days and slow days out here this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
We have seen a mixed bag of good days and slow days out here this week. While there’s certainly fish to be had, the unseasonable weather has seemed to keep fish a bit confused as to what time of year it really is. The midge bite continues to get stronger as the lake temperature warms, and these will be the main bugs for indicator fishing

The Truckee seems to be in transition from winter to spring conditions

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee seems to be in transition from winter to spring conditions. Higher up in the system it’s still fishing very much like early March, small baetis and midges, paired with worms, eggs and stones. Lower in the system it’s feeling a bit more like spring, with good baetis hatches mid-day and a solid streamer bite. There is also a noticeable size discrepancy on the

Cold Weather Doesn't Slow These Lahontans Down

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
Pyramid Lake is the strange anomaly in the trout world; fishing is best during the blistering cold, blustery winter and spring while the rest of the trout world is frozen over. We love it, and definitely aren’t complaining, and this season has been the longest extended winter season we have seen in a very long time. That is a great thing, as we need the

Still snowing

by MATT KOLES
Still snowing.Probably some more snow next week. 3’rd snowiest Winter on record so far. Understand, when we get a ton of snow in Tahoe, it’s a ton of snow. On the Truckee River, feeling much more like February than March. April will feel more like March. Just gonna be a cold spring. Waiting for that run-off to happen. With this cold weather, gonna be awhile. Pretty descent

We should see our first round stocking very soon

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
We finally have some open water at Baily so we should see our first round stocking very soon. The most consistent way of catching fish at Baily is salmon eggs under the bobber. Fly fisherman slowly retrieving peacock bodied nymphs will find fish just about any time.

Bilk is currently frozen

by NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
Bilk is currently frozen. Fishing will slow considerably at Bilk with the winter and ice. Look for stocking to begin again this spring.

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Pyramid continues to be a bit spotty this week, which is a bit surprising given the time of year. The water temps out here jumped up a few degrees this week, going from 42 to 49 degrees over the last 2 weeks, and we are hopeful that this should help the cause, making fish more active throughout the day. Yet today (Friday morning) the lake

These storms have kept the water temperatures on the river very cold

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
Is it Spring yet? Well, technically, yes. However, the grips of this huge winter still don’t want to let loose just yet. Continued unsettled weather over the next week will drop another 6-8 inches on Tuesday and scatted storms throughout the remainder of the week. Will it ever stop? There has even been rumors that the storm window may remain open all the way through

Rolling right through March on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
Rolling right through March on the Truckee River. We had a nice break from the weather there for a bit, but now it’s cold and more snow on the way early next week. At least it should be a nice weekend. Who knows the long range. My guess, a colder than average Spring. Flows have come down a lot. Right around 500 and change here in Hirschdale.

Recent Trout Plant

by DOUG BUSEY
The lake was planted last week with 5000 lbs of tiger and sheep creek strain trout.

The water level has been fluctuating up and down a foot or so

by DOUG BUSEY
The water level has been fluctuating up and down a foot or so. The ramp is open to launch. The shore is clear for people to drive down to. Be careful where you venture down to, there are still a lot of slick muddy trails. NDOW planted the lake this week with over 3000 tiger trout. Trollers have been using flashers and a half crawler.

Fly fishing at Pyramid Lake has been fantastic through the middle of March

by RENO FLY SHOP
Fly fishing at Pyramid Lake has been fantastic through the middle of March and should only increase in productivity through the end of the month and into April. With the constant barrage of storm systems for much of the winter, water temperatures at Pyramid Lake have remained low. As a result, cruising fish have not been seen in as many numbers as this time last

The Truckee River has dropped into shape nicely

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has dropped into shape nicely after a large storm around the middle portion of March. While the river did blow out for a few days following the spike in flow, clarity has improved drastically and fish have settled into feeding lanes. At the time of this writing (3/23/23), flows at the Reno gauge are reported as 722 cfs. This is a fantastic
