Western Nevada Fish Reports

Anglers fishing from a boat are having the most success

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
With the stocking levels decreasing this year, fishing has been slow at Pyramid Lake. Anglers fishing from a boat are having the most success, but still not a lot of action at this time.

Flows on the Truckee River right now are slightly higher than normal for the winter season

by MOUNTAIN HARDWARE & SPORTS
Current Water Conditions With the recent precipitation, flows on the Truckee River right now are slightly higher than normal for the winter season—holding around 51 CFS out of Tahoe City, 174 CFS through the Glenshire area, and 631 CFS at Farad. The bite is slower this time of year, but can still be rewarding for anyone wanting to make the trek through the snow. Snow banks

Pyramid Lake has fished very well to begin the new year

by RENO FLY SHOP
Pyramid Lake has fished very well to begin the new year. The storms over the holiday encouraged fish into the shallows—resulting in a lot of feeding fish. Both the strip bite and indicator bite have been good at Pyramid Lake on any given day. Depending on the type of beach you are fishing, you will want to adjust your approach. On cloudy days, the shallow and

Mid January Truckee River Report

by RENO FLY SHOP
The Truckee River has seen dramatic shifts in flow due to the holiday storms that rolled through the West Coast. Targeting the times with lower flow below 800 cfs at the Reno gauge is your best bet. Fish have been keying largely on attractor patterns with the off-color water conditions following a storm. Bright attractor patterns like the Squirminator are great for grabbing a trout's

The Truckee has dropped back into stable flows with cold and clear conditions this week

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has dropped back into stable flows with cold and clear conditions this week after a few weeks of overly wet storms, which caused the river to periodically run high and off color. With a return to conditions similar to the month of December, LBS (Little Black Stuff) will be your best friend right now.    Midges and baetis make up the bulk of this category,

Pyramid Lake Fishing Report

by THE FLY SHOP
Fishing conditions:  Great Report: With continued unsettled weather patterns bombing us here in California, that means this lake is fishing great! The dinosaur fish are eating Tui chubs and big midge patterns, basically put it in front of them and hang on! Good flies would be Zach's Pyramid Minnow in Tui chub and white. Balanced Leeches tied in lighter colors, Pyramid Bombers, Moo Midges, etc. This season

Happy New Year!

by PYRAMID FLY CO.
As we ring in the new year and the 2026/2027 fishing season, we want to thank everyone that came out last season! It was a memorable and exciting one with lots of smiles, laughs and of course big trout. The fishing throughout December was good. Fish were staying tight to the western shoreline and feeding throughout the day. Fair weather has slowed it down but not

Flows have some back down from the big monsoon last week

by MATT KOLES
A new year on the Truckee River. Good news, it's raining and snowing again. If this keeps up, we'll have another great water year. Flows have some back down from the big monsoon last week. Around 600 cubes here in Hirschdale and a little higher down on the Nevada side. Great Winter flows. Somewhat mild out and should stay that way though the weekend. Good time to

East Walker River Fishing Report

by KENS SPORTING GOODS STAFF
The California side of the EW is closed for Winter, just the Nevada side is open now. The fishing down here has been overall fairly slow though there are still a few fish being caught. The traffic has been pretty slow down there so we haven't really been getting very many reports, most of the anglers we have spoken with have been telling us that

The lake has yet to really switch on as we’ve seen a few good days here and there

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The lake has yet to really switch on as we’ve seen a few good days here and there, but nothing consistent. With the funky start to the winter, the standard beaches and methods to fish them for this time of year have kind of gone out the window. If you’re heading out here, it may be a good time to explore some of the lesser-known

Truckee River Fishing Report

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The fishing on the Truckee over the last week has been pretty slow. We speculate that this is because of the cold days we’ve been having lately. The water is also very clear, and this doesn’t typically help the angler much either as it makes the fish even more wary and more likely to key in on the small bugs.    With this said, focus on fishing

Lots of things about to happen on the Truckee River

by MATT KOLES
We're moving out of our stagnant weather pattern and going right into full blown Winter. Storms will be warm to start, but looking like a white Christmas. Thank God, everyone in Truckee pretty much has environmental anxiety. That's a real thing. No snow is not good.  Remember, it doesn't snow to much down here in Hirschdale, and hardly ever down on the Nevada side of the

The fishing has still been good for mackinaws and rainbows

by DOUG BUSEY
The fishing has still been good for mackinaws and rainbows. When the weather holds out. Another gift idea. Go to rubyjeancharters.com and buy a gift certificate for that special angler, or anglers in your life. Jason can take out parties of 2 to 6 people. Another great stocking stuffer.

Topaz Lake Fishing Report

by DOUG BUSEY
I took one of my old coworkers Jeff Jeffress from TRE fishing with me this week. We started at 9:30 and fished until 3. The early morning bite was very good for 1.75 to 2.0lb rainbows. We got 6 fish to the boat and lost one that was much bigger. We also caught a very nice small mouth bass about 2-3 lbs. All fish were

It is windy and cold, and that means the ancient lake is fishing well

by THE FLY SHOP
It is windy and cold, and that means the ancient lake is fishing well. The Lahontans are eating Tui chubs for the time being. Good flies would be Zach's Pyramid Minnow in Tui chub and white. Balanced Leeches tied in lighter colors can work as well. From here on out you can fish the big midges and Balanced Leeches. This season is looking to be

With the lack of weather, Pyramid really hasn’t switched on just yet

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
With the lack of weather, Pyramid really hasn’t switched on just yet. That said, there are still fish being caught, with a few reports of some good days here and there if you land on the right beach and are fishing it effectively. During the high pressure system this week, your best fishing from shore will be early mornings and late evenings. Primarily under the

The Truckee has continued to be very consistent, considering it’s the middle of December

by TROUT CREEK OUTFITTERS
The Truckee has continued to be very consistent, considering it’s the middle of December. The flows are still holding strong along the entire river system, and the fishing remains good all up and down the river, from Glenshire Drive to USA Parkway. That’s a lot of good water to fish, so get out and try something new!   The water remains very clear just about everywhere, even

Fishing Report December 2025

by PYRAMID LAKE FLY FISHING
Pyramid is kicking out some toads. Well, it is Pyramid Lake, I guess. The weather has been amazing and the fall like temps keep hanging around. The water temp in the lake is way warmer than a normal December and that second season we always talk about has been extended by a month or more. It’s time to go!!!  Daytime highs are in the 50’s

Angler Report: Topaz Lake

by FISH REPORTS STAFF
We fished Topaz on November 28 and had a slow morning, but things picked up around noon. We landed two fish at 12:00 and 12:45 while trolling Rapalas and casting small Kastmasters. The trolling fish weighed 4.4 pounds and measured 21.5 inches. Beautiful weather made for a great day on the water. Sam Roberts

"Pop Up," Streamer Clinic December 13th 2025

by MATT KOLES
Welp, the weather is a bit too nice for December here on the Truckee River. Lets have a Winter Streamer Clinic. Winter is a great time to get fish on streamers on the Truckee River. We'll go though the rods, lines, floating, sinking, euro. All the ways you can catch fish on streamers on the Truckee River. This will not be a swinging class with
